Potential Section Addition

Image Sonification

Image sonification is a technique by which images are converted into sound. An early device used for image sonification was the optophone, which used 8 musical frequencies in combinations corresponding with letters and could be used by blind and visually impaired people to read ordinary books.

Thoughts

Source on octophone is https://royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/pdf/10.1098/rspa.1914.0061 (as referenced in Sonification ). Trying to find sources on more recent ones but they all seem to be WP:Primary. Review articles talk about sonification for environments but not for individual images.
