Map

[edit]

File:ASEAN and Sri Lanka.svg is inappropriate and confusing because it shows South and Southeast Asia as a floating island with the rest of Asia missing. --Paul_012 (talk) 02:50, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed that was on purpose. Initially I was trying to follow Hwi.padam's redition of ASEAN and East Timor.svg by isolating ASEAN Nations and the observer country. However it comes off as... The best way i could say is awkward.
(Sri lanka's location is too distanced, with the Bay of Bengal leaving the map empty.) It works well for East Timor and PNG due to geographical positioning and framing over SEA. So I showed South Asia to break up the empty void. I'll try to update this without South Asia to see how it looks, I wont guarantee that it looks practical however. (though I could include the rest of Asia? setting precedent to change ASEAN and East Timor.svg and ASEAN and Papua New Guinea.svg?) Kaliper1 (talk) 17:03, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I wont mind the later though, as it does follow a standard for EU accession Articles over locator maps (eg. Accession of Ukraine to the European Union, Accession of Turkey to the European Union, ect.) Kaliper1 (talk) 17:11, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I do think the East Timor and PNG maps should also be changed. There's no reason not to properly show the geography, as the other countries being greyed out is enough emphasis in itself. --Paul_012 (talk) 03:01, 26 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
