Hi there, google added activesync for calendar and contacts (mail: "not yet")(on iPhone, at least), maybe one should add it somehow.. dunno where it'd fit though. Regards, J —Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.83.244.131 (talk) 15:13, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
Windows Mobile Device Centre?
[edit]Hello, does anyone think we should make a WMDC article seperate from this ActiveSync article? --Illyria05-- 21:35, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
"Disadvantages"
[edit]Anyone else think the Disadvantages section is a bit lacking?
I get the impression it was just added by someone who was annoyed with Activesync, or perhaps an anti-MS fanboy. Jackster (talk) 20:58, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
- I like it, by it didn't work on my computer (Windows XP SP2 <-> Windows Mobile 6.0). This is the main disadvantage :) -- AKA MBG (talk) 20:40, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
How about the well-known impossibility to turn it off? See e.g. here; there exist several tools to disable and/or unload ActiveSync. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.244.233.12 (talk) 18:40, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
New icon?
[edit]It appears the ActiveSync icon was replaced with an SVG. I don't think the SVG looks completely like the actual icon. I remember the old one being more glossy or something but I don't have the program on hand to check it out. What was wrong with the PNG? And also, if that SVG isn't the actual icon, may as well release it under a free license. Althepal (talk) 02:01, 23 September 2008 (UTC)
Oversimplification
[edit]This article suggests that activesynce enables communication between and desktop and a pda. It says the program works for windows mobile and non-windows mobile devices including the iphone.
Actually Activesync can enable between a desktop and a pda OR between an exchange server and a pda. A palm or windows mobile device can exchange data with a desktop via a usb cable. Activesync on a desktop GageParker (talk) 00:42, 1 January 2009 (UTC)will not recognize an Iphone connected by a usb. Apple only licenced Activesync for Exchange Server.
Included with Windows?
[edit]What is the source for such information? I don't remember ActiveSync being bundled with the OS. 85.242.16.16 (talk) 14:21, 4 January 2013 (UTC)
Distinction between ActiveSync and Exchange ActiveSync (EAS)
[edit]Quoting the article:
ActiveSync allows a mobile device to be synchronized with either a desktop PC or a server running a compatible software product including Microsoft Exchange Server, Axigen, Horde, IceWarp Server, Kerio Connect, Kolab, MDaemon, Novell GroupWise, Tine 2.0, Scalix, Zarafa/Kopano via Z-push, or Zimbra.
Is this true? The top of the article says that this ActiveSync is "not to be confused with" Exchange ActiveSync, and I'm quite sure the products mentioned above do work with Exchange ActiveSync (EAS). Is the "wcescomm.exe" ActiveSync described on this page merely a client for EAS, or is it using a different protocol entirely? In the latter case, it would seem that this list of products supported by it might have been erroneously added to this page when they actually belong on the Exchange ActiveSync page. Unless the listed products support both ActiveSync and Exchange ActiveSync, which would be even more confusing.
Also, this part seems suspiciously similar to Exchange ActiveSync:
On desktops, ActiveSync synchronizes emails, calendar, contacts and tasks with Microsoft Outlook, along with Internet bookmarks and files. ActiveSync does not support all features of Outlook. For instance, contacts grouped into subfolders are not transferred. Only the contacts which are not in a subfolder are synchronized. In case of Exchange Server, only emails, calendar, contacts and tasks may be synchronized.
Could all of this have been erroneously added? Or is the "wcescomm.exe" ActiveSync really that similar to Exchange ActiveSync, despite the warning not to confuse them? I'm asking these questions because I truly don't know the answer. If someone who does know could clarify, that would be helpful.
Thanks — 73.166.84.230 (talk) 23:14, 13 November 2020 (UTC)
I deleted this software list for now because I believe it was based on a mixup of the two. If you decide to re-add them, please take care to evaluate each one for compatibility with wcescomm.exe, as opposed to EAS. 2601:2C2:A80:63D:436:DF98:9C42:1346 (talk) 22:57, 4 December 2020 (UTC)
icon is possibly incorrect
[edit]i see the icon for activesync here is incredibly low quality (in the way it was created, not the resolution) and noticably different from the once seen in the screenshot, can someone perhaps find a proper icon? Pwnz0rServer2009 (talk) 17:34, 30 December 2023 (UTC)
