College Name[edit]

The name changed from "Adam Smith College" to "Fife College" some time before I started studying there in 1993. Has it changed back again? 77.99.98.37 (talk) 10:43, 13 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I put the main content of this edit up earlier but had not yet worked out how to do the referencing (trying to learn this stuff one step at a time ), and unfortunately in the mean time it was rejected due to lack of supporting references . Sorry, but Wikipedia has a very strict policy on biographical content about living people. That policy requires me as a Wikipedia editor to remove unsourced or poorly sourced content about living people that is negative in tone without prior discussion. I have removed your recent additions because the sources are not strong enough to support that kind of content. One of the sources you cited was a blog, as a self-published source, this is not reliable enough for any kind of content on Wikipedia, never mind this kind of content. The other source does not confirm that any controversy exists as far as I know. The kind of sources needed for this content is things like newspapers, and other sources which have editorial processes. Please read WP:BLP, WP:RS, WP:V and WP:NPOV before readding any of this kind of content. Wikipedia is not the place to fight off-wiki battles. Quasi human | Talk 23:08, 27 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Update on Jan 29 2012 at 15:53 OK QuasiHuman I understand. Thankfully this has now been covered by national newspapers yesterday so I have been able to use references from two national papers as well as the website of one of these papers. I’ve also restructured and reworded the entire Edit to remove anything that is not directly published in these papers. I’ve still included the Constitution and Standing Orders of the Board of Governors as a reference, as although it is not a newspaper, it is a government regulated document published on a public college website (which is a Government [http://www.bis.gov.uk/policies/higher-education/recognised-uk-degrees/listed-bodies Listed Body), so I’m presuming this will be classed as reputable verifiable published document. I’ve also tried avoiding any wording that might not be seen as neutral. I think that should now be acceptable (hopefully), but please just let me know if it needs any more edits. I’m only putting in a lot of detail just now as this is so current (it hit the newspaper front page just over an hour after you last commented saying it needed newspaper references :-). This is a big improvement compared with your previous edit, you will notice that I've made some fairly minor changes such as moving the position of the section (it makes sense to have details like history and campuses before the recent events) and removing external links from the text (per WP:EL). There are a few things I have not been able to verify, such as David Torrance being a government minister, but these are minor in comparison to the previous content, so I will not be removing content.
