UCSF School of Medicine Expanding Wikipedia Course--March 2019

[edit]

Hello! As part of UCSF School of Medicine' Expanding Wikipedia course, I am editing the Adapalene Wikipedia page. I have drafted my work plan for the month below:

- I will avoid jargon and use language that is understandable for the general population to improve the wikipedia page.

- I will use up to date articles/reviews regarding adapalene’s indications, off label uses, efficacy, and mechanism of action to expand the article.

- I will restructure the article so the sections flow better and the article is easier to follow.

By 3/8: Select one article and draft work plan.

3/8-3/10: Literature review, see what new data presented/published and what information has been would be useful for the general public

Week 2: Begin expanding the ‘medical uses’ and ‘off-label uses’ section and ‘pharmacodynamics’ subsection in the sandbox. Plan to make live updates by WP-WIP #2.

Week 3: Continue expanding Adapalene’s Wikipedia page, review edits from peer review

Week 4: Wrap up article revisions and incorporate edits from peer review. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lms 62270 (talkcontribs) 05:04, 8 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

UCSF WikiMed Peer Feedback

[edit]

Overall, I think you're right on track with the Workplan! I think this page is definitely taking shape and you have provided high quality references to support your contributions. Well done!

Medical Uses Great reference to the Global Alliance on Improving Outcomes of Acne. I think this indicates that this is not a primary source, but rather a source that has synthesized the primary literature into recommendations. Additionally, you reference double-blind RCTs as supporting evidence but cite the systematic review that supports their findings. Well written.

Off-Label Uses Great links to other dermatologic skin conditions (KP), and introducing the scope of off-label uses that exist. I agree that this isn't a section to dive too deep into, as off-label uses do not yet have a body of evidence.

A few areas to consider building on include: - Are there studies that look at the frequency of the different side effects. Are there any side effects that may warrant seeing a doctor immediately? - It's clear that the route of administration is topical, but are there any specific considerations for administration? I know that a prescription has this information, but it might be helpful to provide a note on avoiding eyelids, lips, and mucous membranes. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ShervinEtemad (talkcontribs) 15:25, 23 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The introduction to the article feels as if it was written to describe why this medicine is better than alternatives in its catagory. 166.194.188.50 (talk) 17:12, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
