Hello Richard. I just saw this list, after you added the pertaining category to Thomas Hillhouse which is on my watchlist.

The plural seems to be "Adjutants General" see here where it is mentioned. There is also a list of early adjutants general on this page up to William L. Marcy who was appointed in 1821. (note that the adjutant general was appointed by the Council of Appointment until further notice). The list continues here (note that from 1823 on the adjutant general has been appointed by the governor, for the duration of the governor's term) until 1846. The list continues here until 1869. Note that J. Meredith Read was appointed in Jnauary 1861, but resigned a few months later, and was followed by Hillhouse in August of that year. Kraxler (talk) 15:37, 8 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
