In accordance with S/2012/74 of January 2012, AMISOM was envisaged to expand to a uniformed strength of 17,731.

  • S/RES/2355 (2017) 26 May 2017: authorizes the deployment of AMISOM until 31 August 2017, for a maximum level of 22,126 uniformed personnel,
  • S/RES/2372, 30 August 2017; 1000 troops to withdraw by 31 December 2017, 500 police would be added. Depending on conditions, a further thousand troops would be withdrawn by October 2018
  • S/RES/2415 (2018), May 2018, recalls its decision to authorize the African Union to reduce the level of uniformed personnel to 20,626, to include a minimum of 1,040 AMISOM police personnel including five Formed Police Units, by 30 October 2018; - until 31 July 2018
  • S/RES/2431 (2018), 30 July 2018, decides to authorise the Member States of the AU to maintain the deployment of AMISOM until 31 May 2019, including a minimum of 1,040 AMISOM police personnel including five Formed Police Units, and to reduce the level of uniformed AMISOM personnel to a maximum level of 20,626 by 28 February 2019
  • S/RES/2472 (2019), 31 May 2019, decides to authorise the Member States of the AU to maintain the deployment of AMISOM until 31 May 2020, including a minimum of 1,040 AMISOM police personnel including five Formed Police Units, and to reduce the level of uniformed AMISOM personnel by 1000 to a maximum level of 19,626, by 28 February 2020,

  • S/RES/2614, 21 December 2021, Decides to authorise the Member States of the African Union to maintain the deployment of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) until 31 March 2022,
  • S/RES/2628(2022), 31 March 2022, [AMISOM->ATMIS] Authorises the Member States of the African Union to deploy up to 19,626 uniformed personnel, inclusive of a minimum of 1040 police personnel including five Formed Police Units, until 31 December 2022 and endorses the African Union Peace and Security Council’s decision to drawdown 2000 personnel by this date;
    • 27. Authorises the Member States of the African Union, between 1 January 2023 and 31 March 2023, to deploy up to 17,626 uniformed personnel, inclusive of a minimum of 1040 police personnel including five Formed Police Units;
    • 28. Notes the Joint Proposal and CONOPs envisage further reductions to 14,626 uniformed personnel, inclusive of a minimum number of 1040 police by the end of phase 2 (September 2023), 10,626 uniformed personnel, inclusive of a minimum number of 1040 police personnel by the end of phase 3 (June 2024), and zero personnel, by the end of phase 4 (December 2024),
  • S/RES/2670(2022) exceptionally extends its authorisations until 30 June 2023 and affirms that paragraph 27 is annulled, further recalls the revision to the operational timeline requested by Somalia and supported by the AUPSC to complete the drawdown of 2000 ATMIS personnel by 30 June 2023, and affirms the commitment of the AU and Somalia to adopt a strategic, gradual, and sector-by-sector approach to the drawdown of those 2000 personnel over this six-month period;
  • United Nations Security Council Resolution 2687 (2023), 27 June 2023,
