Why does this article exist?[edit]

Okay....he's a former British army officer and "prospective parliamentary candidate" in an upcoming election. It completely baffles me why anyone considers that those two things are sufficient grounds to substantiate the need for a Wikipedia article. This is pure promotion and obviously a violation of existing policy regarding such matters. Kind of embarrassingly so if you ask me. 70.48.217.146 (talk) 16:45, 18 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The article states that he has served as 'Education Officer to both Prince William and Prince Harry' and gives 'lectures to officials from foreign governments on countering insurgency and combating radicalisation' with the FCO. Both of these could be grounds for notability if he is a well known figure in defence policy, defence education or the Royal Household. However, the article as it stands doesn't currently justify notability, and a brief google search doesn't come up with much which would usually result in a Wikipedia article. I came to the talk page ..with exactly the same question ..& yes it is a breach of unequivocal rules. Or rather it was a breach of rules. Now the guy is at the centre of a scandal ..but may not relish it. It should have been deleted immediately. JRPG (talk) 21:34, 22 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Book authorship (under "Personal life")[edit]

The current text says, "In 1994, under the name 'Raja Afzal Raza Amin al-Quraishy' he co-authored and edited a book by an Italian Muslim convert known as Othman Italiano entitled Ian Dallas, The Shaykh Who Has No Clothes, which was published in Rome.[4] The book was about Ian Dallas, aka Abdalqadir as-Sufi and the Murabitun World Movement."

There is something odd about this. The ISBN cited belongs to a book in Spanish called Las comunidades islamicas en la España actual (1960-2008): génesis e institucionalización de una minoría de referencia (which translates as something like, "Islamic communities in present-day Spain (1960-2008): genesis and institutionalisation of a minority". The author is one María Ángeles Corpas Aguirre. So the book is not about Ian Dallas, it has no connection with Italy, it is not called "Ian Dallas: the Sheikh who has no clothes" or anything like that, and it is not by anyone called Othman Italiano or Raja Agzal raza Amin al-Quraishy. Moreover it was published in 2010, not in 1994. Unless someone can throw some light on all of this, I suggest that this section of the article ought to be deleted. You are right, it looks like at the very least a weak citation that does not have enough information to support the presence of this in the article. While page 263 of the cited book is a references list, which does indeed name a paper referring to Ian Dallas, that reference (a) gives no more information about its content than a mere citation, and (b) does not in any way identify the author of the paper with this Afzal Amin. I've removed the paragraph, per WP:BLP: "Contentious material about living persons that is unsourced or poorly sourced must be removed immediately." -- The Anome (talk) 11:44, 25 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
