Accurate?

[edit]

Most of the information about the riot was added from an ip and is sourced to a pdf that I can't get to open. After reading the Marine Corps' official version of the story our article seems to have intentionally left out several events. - Schrandit (talk) 23:23, 9 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

What official version have you seen? I found one and added it to the references, but my addition needs proper Wiki format. Also, I've tried to clear up who was involved. In Googling "25th Depot Company", I see that the unit was an African American Marine unit. Accordingly, this incident was not a soldier-sailor-Marine interaction and I've tried to neutralize the language in that regard.--S. Marines are not called seamen. This calls into question other descriptions. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.37.181.155 (talk) 23:52, 22 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Good faith

[edit]

I am that unregistered IP address. Seems that if you are bigoted to the idea that an IP address is less important. I can grasp why you have issues with this article.

Response: Unfortunately, Wikipedia is suffers from frequent vandalism, and IP users are usually the culprits. Accordingly, editors are encouraged to register. IP users can certainly edit, but they should keep the principle of verifiability [[1]] in mind.--S. Rich 22:40, 28 April 2010 (UTC)

Credibility of "WORLD WAR II AND AFRICAN AMERICANS (1941-1945)"

[edit]

I've added a 'verify credibility' tag to the first reference of this article. The PDF file doesn't seem to contain an author, date, or any cited articles of its own. My speculation based on where the PDF file is held, and based on the writing style that this may be a high school student report of some kind. I'm tempted to remove information that uses this article from the original page. Maybe someone with more experience dealing with such scenarios can shed some light on how to proceed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.192.242.113 (talk) 12:15, 1 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. I have added a new "multiple issues" tag to this section due to the bad sourcing. A single uncited class handout by a single high school teacher fails both WP:NOTE and WP:SELF. It probably fails several other things, too, but if I was enforcing the rule properly, I'd have to gut most of the info out of the article. Not to be a jerk (as I'm not doubting the veracity of the info in the general sense), but is there any chance of getting any new sources in this section that don't consist of the personalized, self-published, uncited opinions of a primary school teacher?
