Acting

Mann has done more than "The Big Lebowski" and the "Buffy" episode but I find the entry in the IMDB somewhat confusing. The quote in "Buffy" should be "Man, I hate playing in vampire towns", but I'm not sure of the exact wording; somebody with access to the Season Seven DVDs should be able to check this. --194.97.162.190 30 June 2005 20:39 (UTC)

I think the IMDB entry makes sense, more or less. She appears as herself in various non-fiction releases, which are now listed separately (this has changed). She appears as herself on various talk shows, and appears acting as herself on Buffy and The West Wing, which are all listed together. --Dhartung | Talk 1 July 2005 03:07 (UTC)

Didn't she also make an appearance on Saturday Night Live to sing "Voices Carry"? --Zephlon 15:45, 15 November 2005 (UTC)

Is this even notable? A couple of appearances on a couple of obscure TV shows is limited. Do you put every single appearance of a minor celeb into wikipedia? This is not IMDB. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.88.83.16 (talk) 02:19, 15 April 2010 (UTC)

Picture

I enjoyed the previous pictrue of Aimee, any chance of having both?—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 12.41.204.3 (talkcontribs).

No. WP:FUC states that fair use material can only be used in the absence of free licensed material.--Fallout boy 23:01, 22 March 2006 (UTC)
Oh well, worth asking.

i just got into her and i think her music is great!

Spelling?

I came across a bootleg site where her name was spelled "Aimée Mann" (with an accent). Is this wrong? Can someone look into that? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Notahippie76 (talkcontribs).

Well, you can check the proper spelling (and accents) of her name by how she write's her name on her CD covers, so i don't think that she has an accent in her name ;) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 66.222.214.93 (talkcontribs).

Communicating facts clearly

Calling Aimee Mann a "Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter and guitarist" made it sound as though she won a Grammy for one of those talents, which she did not, so I changed it. Mann received her one Grammy for the CD package/artwork for "The Forgotten Arm", so her Grammy has very little to do with her actual music. Remember, we are here to present facts, not glamorize and fictionalize them. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.78.163.63 (talk) 18:46, 2 September 2008 (UTC) I agree. They changed your edite, but I changed it to include art direction as her primary "talent"

Template

I created a new template for her discography at {{Aimee Mann}}, feel free to edit. Eliz81(talk)(contribs) 20:00, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

Lawsuit

Does anybody have correct, citable details of Mann suing her former record company when they released a "best of" compilation without her permission? Apparently, she had a clause in her contract with them that prohibited the release of any compilations without her express approval. It should be mentioned in the article considering the stance she has taken against the corporate industry. 79.66.101.199 (talk) 22:18, 1 March 2008 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:AMROCKRGRL.jpg

Image:AMROCKRGRL.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Linking to a discography resource

I contributed by adding a new link to the musician's page. Wikipedia puts enormous weight on relying on Discogs and MusicBrainz as resources but I find that the external link I was adding [1] is as much, if not more, a useful resource to provide the user. I didn't know that this is considered 'spam' - if it is, I apologize but I think the links were reverted quickly without a second glance as to the merit of the resource. I don't know who has the better Aimee Mann page, but The Rock Hard Times is otherwise pathetic! First I tried searching for Jules Shear -- fairly obscure, but not un-notable. Nothing. Hmm. Then I tried Jonathan Richman. Almost nothing! A reference to one song! Richman has recorded perhaps 20 albums, as well as appearing in a hit movie. So I tried going semi-mainstream: Roger Waters. They listed his Pink Floyd discography, but had no reference whatsoever to his solo career. Finally, I tried The Fixx -- and this is what I got: A reference to a Metallica song called "Fixxer". Regardless of how well it documents Aimee Mann, trht.net is NOT ready for prime time. --63.25.11.98 (talk) 08:25, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

Early Life

"Aimee Mann spent some of her early years in Coon Rapids Minnesota. I know as I was in her choir class in Coon Rapids Junior High before moving to Virginia. We used to make fun of the way she sang."

The above statement has no place in an encyclopedia. Someone with editing powers please delete.

Agreed, and done. Fasrad (talk) 22:23, 22 October 2009 (UTC)

This is the second time someone has written in this article that Aimee graduated from a high school other than Open High, the second time that I have had to correct that. Please stop doing that. I have the Open High year book that clearly shows Open High as where she graduated. Ramseyman (talk) 16:05, 5 June 2013 (UTC)

2007-present

Good reporting about the 4 new songs for the musical. She talked about it again last night (4/12/2011) onstage at the Birchmere in Alexandria, and she played 2 of those same songs. She further said she's not very sure whether the "Forgotten Arm" Broadway musical will ever come to fruition and said she's putting all of this material on her upcoming album, recording to begin as soon as the current tour is over.Ramseyman (talk) 04:42, 13 April 2011 (UTC)

Birthday

The infobox and the first sentence give different birthdays a month apart. What gives? 69.201.180.212 (talk) 00:01, 28 December 2011 (UTC)

1980s

Here, it is stated that "Voices Carry, the debut album with the title track inspired by the band's guitarist, Robert Holmes', relationship with his wife." However, on Michael Housman's page, it states "the group's best-known hit, "Voices Carry" is said to have been inspired by an argument between Hausman and bandmate/former girlfriend Aimee Mann." So, which is it???BlueIris2 (talk) 01:34, 27 June 2017 (UTC)

Corporate

In the episode of "Corporate" Aimee was in, "Nothing is Good Enough" is playing as she gets hit by the car. The main article says none of her music was in the episode. Bob Farely — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:48F8:9013:8A8:CCE6:8B10:D074:C36E (talk) 01:09, 21 February 2018 (UTC)

Mix it up!

In the sections 2000s and 2010s, nearly every paragraph has the same construction:

In the year [insert year here]...

This makes the article read less like an encyclopedia article and more like the minutes of a meeting.

Please keep in mind that what happened is almost always far more important than when it happened. Avoid giving undue weight to dates because they simply should not be the main focus of sentences or paragraphs.

Mix it up, already! I'm tired of seeing this mistake repeated ad nauseum. Kinkyturnip (talk) 15:28, 27 April 2020 (UTC)

Yes, this is a problem called WP:PROSELINE. Popcornfud (talk) 16:06, 27 April 2020 (UTC)
