Requested move 29 October 2016[edit]

The result of the move request was: No move. This has been open for 5 weeks, with no new comment in over a month. No evidence has been presented either way for which title is more common, though it's worth pointing out that Shekhan is not available as it's a dab page. The official name of the town by to both the Iraqi Government and the Kurdistan Regional Government, is Shekhan. The mostly spoken language in the town is the Kurmanji dialect of Kurdish, and the people of the town refer to it as Shekhan. Etymology[edit]

Ashuraya145, I have removed your additions in regard to Ain Sifni's etymology for the simple reason that it is your interpretation. As per WP:OR, your interpretation has no place on Wikipedia whatsoever. In addition, Wiktionary is not a reliable source in of itself. Mugsalot (talk) 00:38, 25 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

i linked dictionaries that are reliable and wiktionary had multiple links to the words. this isn’t my interpretation either as dozens of sites say this. what type of source would u want then for a possible etymology of a village name? Ashuraya145 (talk) 01:22, 25 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ashuraya145, the issue is that it is your interpretation that Ain Sifni is derived from specifically those two words. If you have a source that explicitly states it is derived from those two words, then I have no issue.
