Extinct? According to the link I am listing below the language is not completely extinct. If there are no objections I am going to change the article to "almost extinct" --CooliLowe (talk) 13:08, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What link? Aka-Jeru is extinct according to every source I've ever seen. It's use as a substrate/superstrae for a creole does not make it "not extinct". (Taivo (talk) 14:58, 28 August 2008 (UTC))[reply]

This article in the Guardian lists it as highly endangered, but not extinct. Endangered languages Taivo - what sources are you referring to?

Ethnologue, which is the most highly respected and reliable source for speaker numbers internationally. I don't know where Austin got his numbers, but it seems that he is actually considering the number of speakers of the Great Andamanese Creole, which has Jeru as a primary substrate, and not Jeru itself.
