Akiyuki ShinboAkiyuki Simbo – There's a lot of inconsistency when it comes to Romanizing this guy's name. NIS America uses "Simbo", Sentai and Madman use "Shinbo", Aniplex uses "Shimbou", and GKIDS and Funimation use "Shinbō" (which is basically "Shinbou"). According to ANN, Akiyuki Shinbo's preferred Romanization is "Akiyuki Simbo" (pronounced the same way), and so his page on ANN has been retitled to "Akiyuki Simbo", and all new articles about him or his works since 2013 refer to him as such. Shinbo is seen a lot more often than Simbo, that is an undeniable fact, however it's as identifiable as Shinbo (due to ANN's usage and the slight difference in spelling, of course), so I don't believe there to be any quarrels regarding relevancy of name. As one of the most reliable and prominent English sources for animanga pages on Wikipedia, I believe it to be reasonable to follow suit with ANN (and NIS America)'s choice to list him as Akiyuki Simbo. ANN and licensor links:

Oppose. "Simbo" may be his desired romanization, but it is definitely not his WP:COMMONNAME.

Personally, this is my first time encountering "Akiyuki Simbo", and I would have doubted it was the same person had I not be informed, unlike with "Shinbo", "Shinbō", or "Shinbou". — Goszei (talk) 05:15, 28 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Add[edit]

The article looks so good! I would suggest adding a "Themes/or Directing Style" and "Influences" sections. Something like Satoshi Kon or even Darren Aronofsky would be nice. And maybe split Shinbo's works to a new article "Works of Akiyuki Shinbo" since he has worked on many projects.

Will add on to "Influence and style" another time (this will include both his influences and the influences he's had on others), and at the bottom of the page I'll have an "Awards and nominations" thing. I'm currently only writing this article, but I'm constantly updating the articles for the other Shaft directors as well, and another project I've taken up that will include all of these articles is re-formatting the "works" section, so, it'll take some time before I fully get to all of that. As for whether or not I'll split his filmography, I dunno yet. Sarcataclysmal (talk) 05:45, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
