Etymology[edit]

The word "Anbar" is of Persian origin, from the Middle Persian word Ambarag. For example, an āb anbār آب انبار is the name of the Sassanid-era Persian water reservoir. It is very important to note that this word is not of Arabic origin, and in fact is one of the many number of words that was borrowed by the Arabic language during the Islamic Conquest of Iran. Persia has had major influence on the culture, history, and language of Iraq, seeing as it was almost always ruled by Persians in antiquity. Bagrationi 19:45, 16 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This is ridiculous. Can someone stop these users from changing the etymology of the word "Anbar" to Arabic? I'm not very familiar with how to use wikipedia. I am Georgian, I have no bias. I have studied Middle Persian and Modern Persians for 3 years now at University. "Ambarag" is a word that means arsenal and it comes from Middle Persian. I am the one that wrote that initially and wrote the translation in the Arabic alphabet. In fact, go to the "ab anbar" page on wikipedia, it identified the etymology correctly there as being from Middle Persian. Someone please stop these radicals from tainting truth.

Repeated vandalism[edit]

User Special:Contributions/217.132.138.248 has been repeatedly reverting my edits of this page to a version which has unsourced and poorly worded POV without listing a reason for his/her edits. I cannot undo the vandalism without breaking the three-revert rule. However it appears this user has a number of IPs from the same building in Haifa, Israel, so I suspect this user has broken that rule already. Deleted[edit]

This sentence: "During the election for the provincial councils in 2005, turnout in the largely Sunni province was very low. Of the total population of some 2 million only 3775 voted.^{[citation needed]}" was deleted as being inconsistent with other data and not resourced.--S. Rich 18:11, 23 April 2010 (UTC)

Number of districts in the province[edit]

The text says "The Euphrates River flows diagonally from the north to the southeast, passing through six of the seven districts", but then it lists 7 districts, while the map shows a total of 8 districts (Abu Ghraib being the 8th). Clearly, the text does not reflect the facts. I would suggest creating a section where all 8 districts are listed, then rephrasing the previous sentence as something like "The Euphrates River flows diagonally from the north to the southeast, passing through all Governorate's districts, except Abu Ghraib".
