Sexuality[edit]

The LGBT people from France category has been the focus of some controversy, as the article does not really discuss Daniélou’s personal life and does not say anything about his sexuality. I was the one who added the category, and have been asked for references. Very well, in his autobiography The Way to the Labryint, Daniélou writes about his sexuality. On page 63 of the American 1987 translation):

Although I was still physically innocent in those days, I had declared myself a homosexual. All my college friends seemed to find this quite natural, and no one ever made the slightest disparaging remark. A number of boys tried to draw me into sexual relationships, but I was too shy and elusive to respond. Then came Donald. [etc]

I have noticed that there has been some back-and-forth editing. At this point I think that the citation to the autobiography establishes that he wished his homosexuality to be known as a notable aspect of his identity. The reference to the name of the partner as "Donald" is partially-supportive of the sentence in the article now. I recommend that a proper citation be added to the article to help nail down the facts.
Can you please provide an ISBN number or other citation details for the edition of Le Chemin du labyrinthe : Souvenirs d'Orient et d'Occident (The Way to the Labyrinth) from which the quotation is taken? Adding those details to the citation would help verify the source in case anyone wants to get a copy of the book. In adding the quotation I noticed that the article cites no sources so I set up the standard sections for citations per Wikipedia:Guide to layout. In that system, books that are actually used in footnotes are added to the References section, which is actually a list of works cited. I am going to make a guess that the edition is: Alain Danielou, The Way to the Labryinth: Memories of East and West, New Directions, New York 1987; translation by Marie-Claire Cournand. Amazon lists that edition as: Hardcover: 338 pages; Publisher: New Directions Publishing Corporation (June 1987); Language: English; ISBN-10: 0811210146. That seems to me to be the edition cited on List of gay, lesbian or bisexual people/A-E If I have acted in error please forgive this intrusion, as I am not a regular editor on this page but have some familiarity with his work.
I emphasize that I have not personally read the book and therefore cannot independently vouch for the accuracy of the quotation. I merely am noting an edit war and trying to suggest a way out by use of a WP:RS. Buddhipriya 03:42, 29 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
