Canada Post holds Grand Opening of their State of the Art Mail Processing Center

[edit]

The new State of the art mail processing center was opened on Sept 21, 2023. It was named in honor of the first black postman in Canada, Albert Jackson. His mother escaped from slavery to Canada in 1857 with his 6 other siblings. He led a humble life but his main goal was to become a postman which he did achieve after many protests in Toronto Canada to keep him from obtaining that position.

The present day grand opening was a proud and historic event for Alberts descendants and Canada Post. Many Canada Post officials, employees, politicians and Jackson family members were in attendance for this celebration.

The building was erected on native land and a special guest from the Ojibwe tribe elder Kim Wheatley was in attendance. She prayed, sang and blessed the building and land. She also explained the Ojibwe tradition of using sage, sweetgrass, cedar and tobacco which are the sacred medicines, which she then used in the ceremony.

Canada Posts corporate governance and business model is dedicated to diversity and inclusivity throughout its workplace and consumer base. This positive outlook solidifies Canada Posts role in the future as a leader in business, e-commerce and sustainability across Canada and the world.
