History section needed

[edit]

article could have another section with this method of ingesting alcohol in history.

Pre-columbian Mayas ingested alcohol and other drugs via this method.

Mentioned in Jared Diamond's third chimpanzee, part of the discussion on Stotting etc. for sexual selection.

see in Mayan art: e.g. figure 11 http://www.famsi.org/research/kerr/articles/xbalanque/index.html — Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.38.29.204 (talk) 03:11, 8 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Needs better sourcing for the effects section

[edit]

I get that this is apparently really a problem, but I'm not sure I buy the explanation that absorption through the colon somehow bypasses first-pass metabolism. I would really like to see this checked for WP:MEDRS compliance, because if true it would have HUGE implications for many types of drug delivery that I simply cannot believe have not been extensively exploited yet. —/Mendaliv//Δ's/ 03:33, 11 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I wouldn't call this an exploit. It would be just be more of an effect of physiology the G.I tract. And seeing how that the rectal area is a very commonly used option as a drug delivery route, along with the mouth, intravenous, intramuscular, etc, I'm sure that it's in the medical literature that they know the effects of it. Because if if it was a true exploit, alcohol enemas would be more commonplace in the media.

Rectal administration does indeed bypass first-pass metabolism. -Pharmacist — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.25.200.89 (talk) 18:19, 7 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Boofing things other than alcohol

[edit]

Rectal insertion is a popular method to ingest a variety of drugs, not just alcohol. See Suppository and, for example, this article: Rachel Clark (March 31, 2022). "What is Boofing and Why Do People Do It?". Lucid News.. How can we best expand this page to include information about anal administration of a variety of substances? There is also a page on Rectal administration that should perhaps be merged with this one? Gnuish (talk) 06:17, 11 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
