Age
[edit]There's been a great deal of back-and-forth on her age, including material about her high school. If someone can find some verifying information from her early life, that would help. In the meantime, 1994 is well referenced with the NYTimes and People refs. --Hipal/Ronz (talk) 21:42, 12 May 2020 (UTC)
Why is the picture used on Alexa's page up for (potential) deletion? I agree with your point of view in regards to her age, and I don't think the birthindex should be used, but what does it have to with said picture? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.255.15.82 (talk) 22:23, 12 May 2020 (UTC)
I'm unable to find any reliable sources for her day of birth. Everything I'm finding could be WP:CIRCULAR. --Hipal/Ronz (talk) 23:53, 31 July 2020 (UTC)
I've restored the 94/95 date. The new sources were either unreliable (meaww.com) or primary (CA birth index). --Hipal (talk) 17:10, 4 December 2020 (UTC)
- imdb states her age as 1990 and from my sources that isnt under her control? she also performs 7-8 years ago in azelia banks video, meaning she would have been 17-18 then. This is a icky cituation since she constantly states her age differently than various sources have stated. Lst76 (talk) 17:26, 8 December 2020 (UTC)
- IMDB is not reliable per WP:CITEIMDB.
- We need better references. The New York Times is highly reputable. Looking at it closer, I see the author is freelancer, so that drops it quite a bit as far as quality. --Hipal (talk) 18:00, 8 December 2020 (UTC)
Hipal - I found this. She is said have to made a sunglasses collection called Mainframe was she was in high school. This is talked about on various sources, supposedly having been worn by famous celebrities. [1][2] [3] In 2010, she made a website for her fashion brand called "The Sosiety". The earliest archives are in early 2010 and according to their website archive, [4] Demie describes herself as being 19 years old - "The Sosiety presents our first project involving two friends from opposite sides of the coasts an opportunity to mix their creative talent into a product. Alexa Demie, 19 year old designer/founder of MainFrames from Los Angeles". The primary source (a California birth index) states that she was born in December 1990, and I know we can't use that as a source, but is her website's archive enough to say that she was born circa 1990 or 1991, as the source doesn't give a specific birth date, other than saying that in early 2010 she was 19? Clear Looking Glass (talk) 04:47, 5 January 2021 (UTC)
- Without better references connecting the dots far more clearly, I'm afraid that would be WP:SYN.
- I don't see the verification for the relationships you describe between: Mainframe/Demie and Sosiety. Where's the verification that Sosiety = Demie?
- We really need something of similar quality to the freelancer-authored NYTimes ref, or more reason to reject that ref as reliable. If Demie is keeping her age private, then we need to be extra-careful. --Hipal (talk) 17:50, 5 January 2021 (UTC)
- http://www.forthedmvonly.com/2010/03/mainframes-x-rathemc.html has info similar to what's on the Sosiety archive, but is of very poor quality. --Hipal (talk) 17:58, 5 January 2021 (UTC)
Adding this: [5] Alexa was 18 in 2009, according to the blog post. Nwodeltsihw (talk) 03:55, 7 January 2021 (UTC)
- We can't use it, but interesting. Thanks. It links https://twitter.com/LexDemie as her twitter at the time. I don't know what social media websites are archived, but it might be worth taking a look if there is anything we could use. It seems like it would be useful to look into her other early professional work. --Hipal (talk) 21:47, 7 January 2021 (UTC)
- How about this: [6], a site owned & operated by Black Sands Media[7]? Nwodeltsihw (talk) 23:04, 12 January 2021 (UTC)
- That doesn't appear reliable, and it's not used anywhere in Wikipedia. --Hipal (talk) 00:04, 13 January 2021 (UTC)
- How about the California Birth Index[8]? Nwodeltsihw (talk) 21:26, 2 February 2021 (UTC)
- Nwodeltsihw - The California Birth Index has already been said to not be usable as its a primary source. Also, as mentioned website "Celeb Answers" is dubious and not reliable at all. A personal anecdote, but I saw an answer there talking about another notable person's birthplace and family, and even though reliable sources and the actual person stated something else, that website claimed that "their research" found different info about that person's birthplace and family. As far as we know, no non-primary source has given out her exact birth date, though it seems likely that we at least know that she was born on December 11. Hipal I have found two social media posts from Alexa's mother (Rose Mendez) and her younger sister wishing her a happy birthday on December 11 (unfortunately, no specific age was given). Alexia Demie's official Instagram account even commented on her sister, "Falize Romé's" post. Here's the Instagram posts: the most funny loving beautiful big sister!!! U are my best friend and i love you more than words can say. Thank you for being the best sister in the world and making me laugh more than anyone & always doing my makeup. you are so special & im so lucky to have you. Happy birthday i love you And Alexa's official Instagram account commented saying: "love u sooooo muchhhhhhhhhhhhh". Her mother, Rose also gave her a birthday wish post on December 11: Happiest of birthdays to my beautiful angel Alexa💗🎂🎉🎊🙌🏼 you have brought so much light & joy to me & and our entire family 💗 you are truly a gift to the world 🌎 I love 💗 you more then words can say, you’ve made me proud from the day you were born!! Her birth date is either December 11, 1990[1] or her self-reported December 11, 1994.[2] I think both should be up, just like was done with Mariah Carey's age. It used to say 1969 or 1970 for many years until someone found overwhelming proof it was the older age. Nokia621 (talk) 02:08, 20 January 2022 (UTC)

Given the refs and their quality, I think we either go with both years as Nokia621 suggests, or we leave it out. --Hipal (talk) 18:42, 18 February 2022 (UTC)

A note was added in March [10]:
Demie's age has been disputed online. While various outlets state that she was 24 years old in 2019, an online list of alumni from the 2008 graduating class of John Marshall High School in Los Angeles listed her name, while a viral TikTok video showed her in a 2007 high school yearbook, which would make her, as of 2022, at least 31 years old.[1][2][3]

Birth name?
[edit]I'm confused on what to put for her birth name.
The California Birth Index claims she was born "Alexa Demie Wilson", and that "Wilson" is her fathers surname. But the Riverside Public Notice (on page 20/21) states her name as being "Alexa Demie Wilson Vanerstorm" before she changed it to "Alexa Demie". So what do we put for her birth name? Just keep it at "Alexa Demie Wilson"? Clear Looking Glass (talk) 03:27, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
- Isn't the public notice simply giving her legal name at the time, rather than her birth name? --Hipal (talk) 16:54, 4 December 2020 (UTC)
@Trillfendi:, could you please weigh in with exactly what problems you are seeing? --Hipal (talk) 17:59, 20 December 2020 (UTC)
- The California Birth Index only takes general pieces of information (I have an aunt in there, so I can see first hand how limited the information is.), that’s why I think it should be widely accepted as a source. They won’t tell you what hospital or city the kid was born in, won’t give the parents’ full names or birth places, and doesn’t know if your siblings were born in other states. What I’ve been able to gather is that the “Wilson” surname came from Dennis Wilson, when her grandmother Carole married him. Her father Scott was born in a previous marriage to a man named Frank Vanerstorm but as an infant he was adopted as Dennis Wilson’s son. It’s all very confusing how the second last name got there being as her father evidently does not use it. Sorry that a bit of OR had to be involved. Trillfendi (talk) 13:46, 21 December 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks for responding. Because it's a primary reference, we can't use CA Birth Index to overturn better references. The NYTimes ref, being written by a freelancer, isn't very good, but it seems the best we have so far. If we had something of equal quality, I think it would be fine to list possible multiple years and indicate that the sources vary. --Hipal (talk) 16:44, 21 December 2020 (UTC)
We might want to remove her birthname at this point. I'm not clear what's verifying it. --Hipal (talk) 16:42, 14 April 2021 (UTC)
This ref was recently added as verifying her birth name, but I don't see how it properly verifies that information, same as the others mentioned above: https://trellis.law/case/19BBCP00120/IN-THE-MATTER-OF-ALEXA-DEMIE-WILSON-VANERSTROM --Hipal (talk) 15:28, 2 June 2021 (UTC)
- I'm not sure how it works in the United States, but where I live if you're filing for a name change your current legal name needs to be on the record, backed up by sources such as bank statements or enrolment forms - without it, you can't legally prove you are who you say you are. I think it's safe to say that, at the time that she changed her name to Alexa Demie, her legal name was Alexa Demie Wilson Vanerstrom - but this doesn't prove that she wasn't born Alexa Demie Wilson and had her name changed by her parents at some point prior to this change. PunkAndromeda (talk) 11:20, 3 June 2021 (UTC)
- Exactly. All these refs do is identify what her legal name was at the time she changed it. None identify her birth name specifically. --Hipal (talk) 15:33, 3 June 2021 (UTC)
- And the CaliforniaBirthIndex lists both "Alexa Demie Wilson" and "Alexa Demie Vanertrom" (identical records otherwise), but no "Alexa Demie Wilson Vanerstorm". I'm guessing this is a limitation of the index database. --Hipal (talk) 16:26, 4 May 2022 (UTC)
Name change
[edit]As far as documenting her name change goes. The Daily Dot reference, currently used, links the trellis.law case that is linked above. I don't have access to the individual legal documents, but there's a decree and it documents her name before and after. The Riverside Public Notice only documents the intention to change her name, so I'm not sure if it's enough. The NYGal article mentioned in other discussions on this talk page is probably what originally was used to verify the information, but is an inferior reference. Which should we use? @Benmite:? --Hipal (talk) 02:46, 23 May 2022 (UTC)
- @Hipal: Are you asking whether or not we should include the name listed in the petition, whether or not we should include that she changed her name at all, or which source we should use to verify that she changed her name? I'm against including the name from the petition, since no RSs explicitly use that as her birth name, and even less reliable sources like The List only say that it is "reportedly" her birth name. Yes, The Daily Dot links to the petition, but nowhere in the article's text do they say what she changed her name to or from. I'd err on the side of caution here per WP:BLPPRIVACY and just include that she changed her name, as the Daily Dot article unequivocally supports that statement, without including what the name was or how it was changed, length-wise. As far as using NYGal as a source, I'm staunchly opposed to it. Information about the site is almost nonexistent, even on the site itself, but I have to assume that it lacks editorial oversight or fact-checking based on a lack of evidence to the contrary. I'm not sure which question you were posing, but I hope that answers all of them. benǝʇᴉɯ 03:15, 23 May 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for your response. Good points all around.
- You made this edit. I reverted. I'm trying to figure out what, if anything needs to be done to address your concerns.
- I don't believe there are any privacy issues concerning her name change, given the public announcement. Do we need to add the announcement as a reference?
- Thanks for your opinion on NYGal. We agree.
- As discussed above, I don't think we have any sources that identify her birth name. Assumptions that her previous name is her birth name are OR.
- Can we leave it as is, should we remove "by shortening it", should we add the public announcement or legal case documents as references? --Hipal (talk) 17:10, 23 May 2022 (UTC)
- @Hipal: We should remove "by shortening it" because the one RS we use to support the claim that she changed her name doesn't mention how she changed it. No, I don't think we should use the legal case documents to support her name change, as per WP:BLPPRIMARY:
Do not use trial transcripts and other court records, or other public documents, to support assertions about a living person.
The only reason I can see that we should need to use the court records as a ref is to augment the Daily Dot ref if it's determined that the article linking to those records is a good enough reason to use them, but I think that would be pushing it in regard to WP:BLPPRIVACY. benǝʇᴉɯ 03:32, 24 May 2022 (UTC)- Given that the reference we're using links the legal case files, I don't understand how BLPPRIMARY applies.
- I don't understand how BLPPRIVACY applies, given all the information is public. --Hipal (talk) 16:47, 24 May 2022 (UTC)
- @Hipal: BLPPRIMARY applies because, despite the Daily Dot article linking to the legal documents, all that the article text—and all that it explicitly confirms—is that Demie legally changed her name in 2019. If we wanted to include anything further, it might involve using the legal documents as a reference. BLPPRIVACY applies because Demie has been completely mum on the subject of her legal name or the changing thereof, and the only RS that mentions her changing her legal name is The Daily Dot. BLPPRIVACY states that full names should only be included if they have been "widely published by reliable sources", or published "by sources linked to the subject such that it may reasonably be inferred that the subject does not object to the details being made public". Neither of these criteria are met, and although we're not including the full birth name listed in the legal documents, we're referencing that birth name by including that it was shortened. Also, the one source we use for this info also doesn't state that she shortened her name, merely that she legally had it changed. benǝʇᴉɯ 12:37, 26 May 2022 (UTC)
- I've searched for better references to resolve this easily, but haven't found anything that we could use.
- I'm afraid we're at an impasse. The information is public. RfC? BLPN? --Hipal (talk) 17:03, 26 May 2022 (UTC)
- @Hipal: Either works. benǝʇᴉɯ 15:24, 28 May 2022 (UTC)

Thanks.
I've removed it per BLP, as we don't have consensus [11]
Summarizing from my perspective: It's a fact that she made the details public. That's not in dispute. From my perspective, that negates any BLPPRIVACY issues.

If the question is only whether to include "by shortening it", then the answer is no. Neither the Daily Dot or the court document fully verify that statement. ––FormalDude talk 21:15, 30 May 2022 (UTC) |

Television Year Title Role Notes 2016 Ray Donovan Shairee 3 episodes 2018 Love Marina 2 episodes 2019 The OA Ingrid Episode: "Treasure Island" 2019–present Euphoria Maddy Perez Main role; 8 episodes
In this article, it states Alexa Demie was featured in 8 episodes of Euphoria, but with the new season, she has been featured in a total of 13 now. The edit would be to change the number of episodes Alexa played "Maddy Perez" from 8 episodes to 13 episodes. Bellaqueen1219 (talk) 07:37, 10 February 2022 (UTC)

IMPORTANT: Her actual Birthdate, name and age
[edit]the California birth index between 1905–1995 (https://www.californiabirthindex.org/) is the end all be all source (besides a birth certificate) for someone born in California in that time period. Obviously an birth certificate would give far more information but there is no doubt as according to her birth index record her name is Alexa Demie Wilson Vanerstrom born December 11th 1990, so she is 31 according to offical state registration. What’s odd though is that she has three separate records in the index, this is most likely due to her name change to Wilson. Magnumb22 (talk) 01:40, 18 February 2022 (UTC)
- See the discussions above. We cannot use that reference, and it doesn't verify "Vanerstrom" from https://www.californiabirthindex.org/birth/alexa_demie_wilson_born_1990_20368720 at least. --Hipal (talk) 02:29, 18 February 2022 (UTC)
- @Magnumb22: re [12]:See above. --Hipal (talk) 16:44, 18 February 2022 (UTC)
Excuse me how can we not use that source (by the way)… Magnumb22 (talk) 21:10, 18 February 2022 (UTC)
- For the reasons given in the previous discussions and the general consensus on it's use. --Hipal (talk) 23:16, 18 February 2022 (UTC)
Thats not a reason. You are a Frequent editor I see so surely you would be able to give me your reasoning here without directing someone to go look at tons of discussion pages. Magnumb22 (talk) 23:52, 18 February 2022 (UTC)
- You have it backwards. If you want to change consensus, make a case that takes into account previous discussions and relevant policies. --Hipal (talk) 00:18, 19 February 2022 (UTC)
What consensus. I’m just genuinely asking for a reason looking at your Wikipedia page I’m kind of baffled because you have it here that you want to resolve issues and yet you can be causing them by your tone. Maybe you’re not from the US so maybe your culture is different? but this condescension is just not good. Magnumb22 (talk) 04:06, 19 February 2022 (UTC)
- Please WP:FOC. --Hipal (talk) 15:51, 19 February 2022 (UTC)
Are we going to have a problem?… you can’t give me a valid reason. Pretty sure that’s not adequate wikipedia editing skills. And I am genuinely trying to understand why you are acting in this way… Magnumb22 (talk) 16:28, 19 February 2022 (UTC)

Early career in lede
[edit]I removed the mention of "Miles" from the lede [13]. None of it is notable, and the temptation to emphasize obscure work like this detracts from her important work. I'm going to remove it completely. --Hipal (talk) 19:47, 16 March 2022 (UTC)
- @Hipal: I think that's entirely fair. I was partially just trying to pad out the lead so that it didn't look so bare in comparison to the rest of the article, but it's hard to deny that Miles is only notable for being her first official film credit, and even then, she made minor appearances in a couple other things prior to that. benǝʇᴉɯ 02:24, 17 March 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks. While we're looking, note that some of those references are rather sketchy. My guess is that she has been very careful with what she's disclosed about her early career, so we should too. --Hipal (talk) 02:44, 17 March 2022 (UTC)

Comments
[edit]While the article is reasonably well written, I feel like the following changes could be made.
- A little more might need to be added to the lead section. Not much, but I'd suggest mentioning her directorial roles in some capacity—although they're just for music videos.
- Done. Added short sentence about Demie's music video direction as well as her appearances in music videos. Can expand/be more specific if necessary. benǝʇᴉɯ 04:16, 22 May 2022 (UTC)
- "Demie was born in Los Angeles, California. She grew up in the neighborhood of Atwater Village, where she was raised by her mother..." might read better as "Born in Los Angeles, California, Demie grew up in the neighborhood of Atwater Village. She was raised by her mother..."
- Infobox should mention Demie's mother, as she's mentioned—albeit briefly—in the article body.
- Not done, as per the instructions for the
parents

GA reassessment needed
[edit]There are some rather poor references, plus heavy reliance on interviews and publicity.
There are ongoing content disputes that are not settled, and some that are unclear if they are resolved: Talk:Alexa_Demie#Age, Talk:Alexa_Demie#Birth_name?, Talk:Alexa_Demie#Verification_that_grandfather_is_Dennis_Wilson, Talk:Alexa_Demie#Source_for_father's_name, Talk:Alexa_Demie#Early_career_in_lede. --Hipal (talk) 20:02, 22 May 2022 (UTC)
- It's unclear that the recent removal of six poor references, without any changes in content [14], fully address the problems. --Hipal (talk) 02:41, 3 February 2023 (UTC)
Name change in personal life
[edit]Hi folks, I’m new to editing here and don’t feel comfortable editing the one sentence personal life section, but right now it is incoherent and doesn’t appear to be correct. There are multiple news stories about alexa changing her name, but not to Harmony. Lasagnalizards (talk) 04:27, 4 June 2022 (UTC)
- I believe that was just some recent vandalism. It was reverted. Thanks for noting it and starting a discussion. --Hipal (talk) 20:07, 7 June 2022 (UTC)
UPI ref for birth date
[edit]I don't think this meets WP:DOB criteria. Given that we have two sources that say she's never stated her age (see discussions above), I think we continue to keep it out. --Hipal (talk) 01:41, 21 September 2023 (UTC)
