Alexei Oliinyk → Oleksii Oliinyk – The current name is a weird combination of Russian name and Ukrainian surname. --Altenmann >talk 17:42, 28 February 2025 (UTC)
- Comment Oleksii Oliinyk was the stable title from 2018 to 2025. A quick look at sources shows that other spellings exist. Is this really the WP:COMMONNAME? 162 etc. (talk) 20:44, 28 February 2025 (UTC)
- He is not a very public person in English and speaking of commonname makes no sense. We have to use his native name. --Altenmann >talk 21:12, 28 February 2025 (UTC)
- 08:11, January 3, 2025 Bgsu98 talk contribs m 8,520 bytes 0 Bgsu98 moved page Oleksii Oliinyk to Alexei Oliinyk
- So, There was no move discussion and I have all rights to move it back to where it belongs. --Altenmann >talk 21:14, 28 February 2025 (UTC)
- WP:COMMONNAME absolutely applies. Please cite sources. 162 etc. (talk) 23:12, 28 February 2025 (UTC)
- Not that absolutely. We had Kyiv pushed against fiery resistance despite majority of native English uses was Kiev. We have plenty of obscure native names where a handful references does not warrant conclusive "commoname" selection, where official spelling should preferred, so that Wikipedia should not propagate common ignorance. --Altenmann >talk 01:31, 1 March 2025 (UTC)
- P.S. All that said, here is your blooming usage of the current title: zilch, nada, an the longer this stupid name sits in wikipedia, the wider it will spread by the ways of lazy reporters. --Altenmann >talk 01:42, 1 March 2025 (UTC)
- See WP:UKROM: "Living (...) people's names normally use their own preferred or most common spelling."
- Please cite sources to confirm that:
- 1) Oleksii Oliinyk is this individual's preferred spelling
- 2) Oleksii Oliinyk is the most common spelling in reliable English-language sources. 162 etc. (talk) 17:51, 1 March 2025 (UTC)
- I do not have to cite anything:
- this person is Ukrainian and his preferred spelling in ukrainian and this is the transliteration from Ukrainian. Do you want me to cite the transliteration rules?
- There is no preferred spelling in english because this is not a particularly public person
- The current name is an abomination mix of Russian and Ukrainian nobody uses' and must be eliminated, and this alone is the reason or renaming. --Altenmann >talk 18:47, 1 March 2025 (UTC)
- > "I do not have to cite anything" Good grief. This is Wikipedia. Yes, you have to cite sources.
- > "Do you want me to cite the transliteration rules?" That's WP:UKROM, which I literally just cited.
- Exactly. Per WP:V I do not have to cite that sun is star, --Altenmann >talk 19:10, 1 March 2025 (UTC)
- > "There is no preferred spelling in english" I promise you that there are English-language reliable sources that have written about him. Some of them are even cited in the article!
- And they do not use the current title. --Altenmann >talk 19:10, 1 March 2025 (UTC)
- > "this alone is the reason (f)or renaming" False. The article title is determined by WP:COMMONNAME. It's up to you to make that case. 162 etc. (talk) 18:57, 1 March 2025 (UTC)
- I made the case that the current name is completely wrong and must be eliminated ASAP. --Altenmann >talk 19:10, 1 March 2025 (UTC)
- I do not have to cite anything:
- I moved this article because that was how his name is spelled here. If you have evidence that this name is improper beyond your say-so, please provide it. Bgsu98 (Talk) 08:32, 2 March 2025 (UTC)
- Ha, thank you for confessing. So, you moved the page because you found the name at some fansite of a NoName person unknown authority? Without comparing usage frequency? Good grief... --Altenmann >talk 09:10, 2 March 2025 (UTC)
- I posted a notice at WPUkraine, but nobody freaking cares. Well, I guess I am done here. --Altenmann >talk 09:10, 2 March 2025 (UTC)
- P.S. At the last farewell glance I noticed the article says:
In April 2018, Oliinyk joined the coaching staff at a skating club in Prešov, Slovakia.
So I would think his official page there will spell his name properly. Hmm... I am wondering what it might be?... --Altenmann >talk 09:20, 2 March 2025 (UTC)
- WP:COMMONNAME absolutely applies. Please cite sources. 162 etc. (talk) 23:12, 28 February 2025 (UTC)

- Comment: Skate Ukraine gives his name as Oleksiy Oliynyk, and underneath says (Also as: Alexei Olejnik). Source. Bgsu98 (Talk) 16:14, 2 March 2025 (UTC)
- Comment. As far as I can see, his WP:COMMONNAME in English-language sources is Alexei Olejnik. It appears even Skate Ukraine gives that as an alternative. -- Necrothesp (talk) 15:33, 7 March 2025 (UTC)
- Move to Alexei Olejnik per User:Necrothesp. OP has stubbornly refused to provide any citations to reliable sources, so we'll go with the name used by the references currently cited in the article. 162 etc. (talk) 21:21, 10 March 2025 (UTC)
- I support this move. Bgsu98 (Talk) 21:22, 10 March 2025 (UTC)
