Felton's parents

[edit]

Poynter's book Mr Felton's Bequests gives a detailed account of the question of Felton's parentage. A number of sources apparently state that his father was Thomas, a tanner, and that Felton was orphaned by the time he was a teenager. Poynter sets out the research to indicate that his father was in fact William, a currier (a profession related to, but not the same as, tanning), and that the Thomas Felton sometimes linked as the boy's father is likely to be a man who died the year after Felton was born, may have been a relative of the family - but was not Alfred's father.
