Captain Kangaroo's honorary doctorate

Resolved
 – Text removed. --bdesham  20:56, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

I removed the following portion of text:

Captain Kangaroo received an honorary doctorate in 1969.

I was not able to verify this information and the text was written by an anon, so I have no way of verifying it with that person. It seems a little odd that a well-known university would award an honorary doctorate to a television character. Then again, it was the '60s, so who knows...

If you can provide a reference, then feel free to put it back in.

OK, nevermind. I found my reference. I'm fixing this now. Darkcore 17:49, 16 Mar 2004 (UTC)
I have re-deleted the text, as the reference seems to have been lost at some point. If it was a valid, reliable source, feel free to reinstate the text. --bdesham  19:57, 10 September 2007 (UTC)

The Greeks

I reinstated the information deleted about the Greek organisations; it seems encyclopædic, & has at least some references. It may need reworking, if there are inaccuracies in it. Cheers, Lindsay 18:07, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

Very good. It's very important that the murder of Chuck Stenzel at the University was discussed in more depth.Bill Heller (talk) 10:39, 28 May 2010 (UTC)

Good Article nomination: Failed

Sorry, but it's a fail. Major problems:

  • Read WP:LEAD - the lead should summarize the rest of the article, not introduce new information. The second paragraph all about that donation should be fielded in a "History" section, while the lead should summarize the school's history, campus, academics, people, and student life.
  • "Notable alumni and faculty" is entirely uncited and should be in prose rather than a list.
  • "Alma Mater" and "Fight song" should absolutely be deleted. If they are important enough to be discussed, information about them should be included (i.e. who wrote it, when it's sung, why it's important, etc.) but not its actual text.
  • There's a {{Refimprove}} tag in the References section.
  • Trivia should not be included.
  • Why is historical information split between "Background" and "History and trivia"?

In short, this has a long way to come, mostly in terms of structure and emphasis. Look at some existing featured articles on universities (Dartmouth College, Cornell University, Georgetown University) to get an idea of how this article should be structured. In particular, the guidelines on structuring a university article at Wikipedia:WikiProject Universities#Structure will be very helpful to you. Kane5187 (talk) 18:55, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

Grammar

Article has:

alumnus Marlin Miller '54

Is he the 54th "Marlin Miller"? Make it clear what this means or remove it. — DIV (128.250.80.15 (talk) 08:08, 8 July 2008 (UTC))

This is a widely-used notation to indicate "Class of '54", and does not need to be disambiguated. --bdesham  12:55, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

Importance in WP New York

I changed importance to "low." Columbia and Cornell are assigned importance of "mid" in this WikiProject and, given Alfred's small size and the relatively small number of people coming from out of state for this University, perhaps Alfred's importance should not be so high. --AFriedman (talk) 23:02, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

Campus Life

Section seems highly biased with questionable sources. Ward20 (talk) 00:20, 6 November 2009 (UTC)
