Article title[edit]

User:Sampeters321: It's incorrect to list multiple occupations in the title of the artile Ali Smith (photographer, musician, author). The rules are to keep it as short/brief as possible. It's only a way to disambiguate from other Ali Smith. I recommend Ali Smith (artist), or pick one they are best known for eg. Ali Smith (photographer).

Couple other problems:

  • The citations need to be converted to {{cite web}}. Use this tool to help: https://citer.toolforge.org/citer.fcgi .. you should be spending 33% of the time writing prose, and 66% of the time working on citation formatting. You want readers to take the article seriously for it to look credible.
  • IMDB is not a reliable source it should be removed. Same with Instagram, Fandom, etc.. any social media will need to be removed. You don't have to remove it, but if you don't, other editors will probably nominate the entire article for deletion because right now it looks it has a WP:COI problem and WP:PROMO problem.

i was NOT paid for this. helping an artist i’ve never met and do not know personally, who sent me information. that said, thank you very much for taking the time, making the corrections and turning it into an acceptable article. Sampeters321 (talk) 00:50, 23 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Promotional article[edit]

Obviously a promotional article. Probably paid for. If so, you got ripped off, it does not conform to Wikipedia rules and standards. Most of it needs to be deleted. If you paid someone for it, you should get your money returned ASAP and in the future not work with a "professional" Wikipedia editor. They are all scams. -- GreenC 23:08, 22 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Devoid of appropriate sources[edit]

The article contains almost no sourcing about Ali Smith by someone who is independent of Ali Smith, which is how we determine notability. For example, no magazine, newspapers, journals have independently written about her. Which is to say, all the sources are in some way by Ali Smith herself eg. links to articles she wrote, links to photos she took, links to books she wrote. I could do that too, anyone can. The way Wikipedia works, you have to prove you are notable by showing the rest of the world has taken notice and interest, by covering you independently. For example, most famous artists have many people writing about them in publications like Rolling Stone, NYT, etc.. has anyone written about Ali Smith in RS? In the NYT?

Also, many of the source are to social media websites that users can edit, such as IMDB. Again, anyone can write anything on those websites, they are not appropriate for Wikipedia, they need to be removed.

Also, many of the sources don't even mention Smith at all. For example, a link to the home page of Oprah Winfrey does not prove she was on the Oprah Winfrey show. There were a lot like this.

Once all these inappropriate sources were removed, most of the article is unsourced. Without sources, it needs to be removed. Leaving very little left. -- GreenC 23:27, 22 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
