Meaning

[edit]

The word Alina means many things in diferent languages, but mostly it means beautiful, smart, graceful. The existance of any meaning of "Alina" in Slavic languages is very doubtfull. I remove Russian line from the table but leave others for more competent review. Sergey (Russia) 193.233.144.5 (talk) 10:07, 28 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The usage of this name in Russian is due to its strong connotation with the word Russian: алый = scarlet, pronounced: "aliy". "Alina" means feminine and somehow related to "aliy". However, it is not the meaning of the particular word, but rather an artistic image from Russian Literature (Scarlet Sails, The Scarlet Flower (1952 film)), that is a color of hope, and anticipation of happiness.
