Agnes Nixon
Whoa whoa. Since when did Agnes Nixon write for Days of Our Lives? Mike H 18:12, Aug 26, 2004 (UTC)
Sections
The page was 38k, so I figured to relieve the page bloating, I'd cut the history down into separate pages, not unlike what was done with Another World. Mike H 20:51, Dec 15, 2004 (UTC)
Pic on the front page
The anon IP bot replaced the old picture with the new one. The older picture was far more enduring and that's why I placed it there. Lord knows when they're going to change the opening again. Besides, the move of the old picture was horribly sloppy and didn't need to go in the first place. Mike H 11:34, Feb 17, 2005 (UTC)
Speculation on actors=
Actors who have participated in taping but not aired aren't current cast members. They will be when they get aired. What if someone important in the plot dies? How can one be sure the previously taped episodes won't be revised or re-recorded? The same priniciple applies for actors that are leaving. Perhaps something could happen that would postpone the leaving of the character for another month. S/he would still exist, but not be shown. Encyclopedias contain facts, not speculation. --jag123 08:29, 9 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Help with another page
Maybe someone here could help with this other page: Clothing terminology needs work but promises to be a great article. Anyone willing to elaborate on the meaning of missy over there? StepsTogether 18:00, May 17, 2005 (UTC)
- Why are you posting this on the All My Children page? Mike H 18:15, May 17, 2005 (UTC)
- No particular reason. Just trying to attract the attention of anyone who might be able to help. StepsTogether 21:03, May 17, 2005 (UTC)
- You might also consider listing that page on Wikipedia:Pages needing attention/Culture and Fine Arts. :) Mike H 23:10, May 17, 2005 (UTC)
Emmy wins
I like the section on the One Life to Live page where it lists the Daytime Emmy wins for individuals and the show itself...Does anyone object to such a section on the AMC page ? Dowew 03:52, 16 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- No! In fact, I welcome such an addition. Go right ahead! Mike H 04:11, Jun 16, 2005 (UTC)
- I have started it with the individuals...and added some other awards like the GLAAD Media Award in which AMC was a popular contender thru the 1990's. The for the Emmys is taken from soapcentral.com as the Daytime Emmy does not have an awards database like the Prime Emmy does. Dowew 17:44, 16 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Im done with the Emmys but the SODA's are a big job, if someone else would like to get started on them ?:) Dowew 20:31, 16 Jun 2005 (UTC)
History
We branched out the AMC History articles because they were so big. There IS a reason why this is all not on this one page...for space reasons. I'm tempted to revert the whole thing, for a lot of this belongs in the history pages. Mike H (Talking is hot) 00:09, July 23, 2005 (UTC)
- I feel this whole new rewrite has hacked the article in two and made a real POV mess of it. I suggest the anon IPs and User:JLPAMC read WP:NPOV and adhere to the policy. Mike H (Talking is hot) 00:20, July 23, 2005 (UTC)
- The page is rather long - this adds a lot of info but it should be seperated into decades again 24.103.139.242 01:32, 21 August 2005 (UTC)
The Phil and Tara love story should be included in the 1970's portion of AMC. Just because
the storyline took place thirty years ago doesn't mean that people don't want to read abou it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please put their storyline back in and include a separate page that is just about them and the people who protrayed them!!
whoever edited their storyline out probably is too young to remember it.
Sorry....
Sorry about changing the All My Children page, but I think it’s an improvement. I’m a longtime fan of the show, I’ve read all the books, and have some inside sources about the program. I’m not writing anything with a bias. I thought the All My Children page needed the rewrite and revamping – not only to give some info about the writers and producers, but to add some interesting pictures as well. If you think the history section is too long, you could always move the opening sequence section or the actors/awards lists to another page. If you look at the OLTL page, the AMC history portion isn’t that long at all. If the readers just want storyline info read verbatim, then they could always go to ABC.com and read the yearly history there. I guess I wanted to make the AMC page at Wikipedia unique. Again, I’m not writing anything with a bias. From what I've seen in books, soap magazines, and all over the internet, is what I wrote about the "golden periods" and low periods. I didn't say these were for a fact, but were considered by a majority – through the soap press, through ratings, in books, and from what I've seen from a majority of fans. I don’t think that’s a “POV Mess”. I got the AMC cast picture from my ABC MediaNet account in January 2005. The other pictures I got from the AMC History site (with permission) and the Tad & Dixie screencap was made by me. Why was the article about Phil and Tara deleted? Just because their storyline was thirty years doesn't mean that people don't want to read about it!
I Changed The Pics....
On the All My Children page I changed all the pics to screencaps.
I like the pictures better!
Agnes Nixon
I am working on a project about Agnes Nixon but I am weary of trusting the information on imdb. Is any one away and which years she produced OLTL and AMC ? Also, Does anyone know how many Daytime Emmys she has won ? I e-mailed NATAS requesting that info a week ago but I had had no responce - its a shame they dont have a database like the Primetime Emmys - Did you all know Agnes was nominated for an Emmy in 1973 for producing OLTL ? - As far as I know she has stayed on the writting staff of AMC since its inception (I think she recently stoped being credited), therefore whenever AMC was nomianted for a writting Emmy she would have been nominated as well, right ?
If anyone has this info please let me know
Dowew 01:47, 17 August 2005 (UTC)
- Nevermind - I got the info I needed from the Emmys. Turns out Aggie has had 28 Noms and only 4 wins (if you dont cound the "Lifetime Achievement" one). Dowew 20:03, 31 August 2005 (UTC)
- I think Agnes Nixon stopped producing her own shows in 1975, when she sold them both to ABC (not 100% sure about the date, but its definitely in the 1975-1977 time period). She owned them herself for quite awhile but the costs of producing the show proved to be too prohibitive for her -- much like Claire Labine and Paul Avila Mayer did with Ryan's Hope in the 1970s.The Invisible Man 05:00, 3 December 2005 (UTC)
books
I have added a list of books that readers may find useful for more information about AMC - I am currently reading "All Her Children" - its actually pretty good - turns out Irna Phillips would call the Kay Campbell while she was performing ATWT (broadcast live) and yell at her for her bad performances Dowew 21:32, 20 August 2005 (UTC)
Ruth Warrick
I have updated Ruth Warrick's page to include her Russian Damehood title which she received in 1992 - however I dont think the footnote is correctly formatted - if somebody who knows more about this could fix it Dowew 18:21, 21 August 2005 (UTC)
Cast Member Status
I think that some of the current cast members should be moved down to recurring. Because really, when was the last time anyone saw Ray Macdonell (Joe Martin)? Sure he's still ont he show, but he's not even there to "morally" support any characters.
- It goes by who has a contract with the show. Ray MacDonnell may not be on the show a lot but he is still under contract with ABC, and therefore is not "recurring." Mike H. That's hot 17:55, 1 December 2005 (UTC)
Isn't Susan Pratt just a "guest star" currently. I don't think it is anything long term. Plus, I am removing Julia Barr from the comings and goings unless some has an official source for her coming back. 131.156.240.89 21:24, 22 February 2007 (UTC)Jessica
Elizabeth Hendrickson is no longer a "recurring" or "guest star" anymore. Her return wrapped up in early February. She is not with the show any longer.131.156.240.89 00:59, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
Actually, neither the show nor Elizabeth Hendrickson's people will confirm or deny that the actress is still on recurring status. She is still considered under contract and cannot discuss her status. Tanisha Lynn, on the otherhand has confirmed that she has no intentions of returning to the show in the near future. As well, Julia Barr has also confirmed she is not coming back to AMC.Writerphotog 17:26, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
I was merely going by the fact that when her return was announced it was only a short term couple week thing. Jcar03 01:46, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
I understand. Things changed during the course of her short return. Negotiations were ongoing the whole time she was in New York. I am very curious when we will hear something regarding her. But we may not until we see something (or don't) on screen sometime this year. Writerphotog 17:28, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
According to Daniel Coleridge at TVGuideonline, Eden Riegel's one-day appearance will be on 8/14/07, after originally being reported as 8/18, then 8/17. Survivor may05 14:02, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
The upcoming departures of Justin Bruening, Alexa Havins and Kelli Giddish were reported in the latest issue of Soap Opera Weekly, dated 7/31/07. There were no departure dates given, but their exits were confirmed in the magazine. Bruening has already taped his final scenes. Survivor may05 15:27, 21 July 2007 (UTC)
Is it known what status Stacy Haiduk (Hannah) has returned under? I've taken it upon myself to create a template box for AMC and don't know if I should list her with the contract players. KnowsSoaps 01:37, 15 September 2007 (UTC)
When Haiduk was on the show earlier this year SOD said when she departured she was just recurring. I think they would of added her into the opening credits at least in early October when they updated them. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.16.239.13 (talk) 00:01, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
Julia Barr
Someone keeps posting she is returning but there is no official source. Please post an official source if this is true but I don't see it on SOD or TV Guide which would have this on their. Jcar03 01:00, 24 February 2007 (UTC)Jessica
Megan McTavish
should we start writing some information about Megan's current storylines. There has been no mention of her other story's except the rape and the babyswitch. Shouldn't we include more of her storylines except these and comment on couplings, ratings, fan reactions as well?
- Sure, but try to keep fan reactions to a minimum because they are subjective and can conflict with the Neutral Point of View policy. Mike H. That's hot 02:01, 10 January 2006 (UTC)
Should we add some couple stuff as well. I think the popularity of JR and Babe and Zach and Kendell should be noted since they've been the two most popular soap couples the show has had. More so Zach and Kendell then JR and Babe as of recent but still I think theose two couples should be referenced in some way.
We could also add in about Josh's parentage and re-write of history, ect. As well as the Greg Madden Murder and Dixie's progressed story.
Film vs. Tape
"As of July 31 2006, the show has a filmed (as opposed to taped) appearance." Right or wrong?
- I've heard people ask me about the new appearance. So I say it's right. Mike H. I did "That's hot" first! 20:12, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
What's the technical difference between filmed and taped? I notice the appearance change, but can't account for it. 13:11 (EDT) September 26, 2006
Film is on photo matrieal used origonally (please ignore misspelling) for movies only. In 1947 they began using it to record Television broadcasts as well, known as Kinescope recording. Until the 1960's all TV prodoction was done on film. Then in the early 1960's some netwroks began using videotape. Videotape is a type of magnetic tape. It was popular in the 1970's for fived days a week programs, such as soap opera for its reusablilty. Until recently all soap opreras were recorded on videotape, but tape eventually fades unlike film. Due the fact old episodes of All My Childen now look muddy due to age deteration, the producers have switched to film for its lasting qualitly. Stralia 21:00, 12 January 2007 (UTC)
- This or a link to a explination like it should be included in the article because the refrence does not make any sense to most people. Dalf | Talk 07:13, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
I happened to catch a little bit of this show the other day (not a typical soap watcher). What attracted my attention was the look of it. It definitely isn't videotape. And I doubt it's film. That would be way too expensive and time consuming to use for a daily soap. Keep in mind too that film is notorious for degradation over time. Many films are lost to history because of this, and even films from as late as the 70s appear to be washed out. The obvious guess would be hi-def digital, an increasingly popular format that is even used in theatrical films. It's a crisp image with no noticeable grain, and its look is similar in ways to both film and video.--Fightingirish 16:05, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
- It's unlikely that a daytime soap was ever shot on film - it would be much to slow and expensive. What they have probably done is switched to "film look" processing, in which the video is shot at 24 frames per second instead of 60 fields per second like ordinary video, and also changes some subtle aspects of how color and mid-grey tones are presented on screen. This need not have had anything to do with switching to HDTV, but could have been done at the same time. Videotape deterioration would not cause old episodes of All My Childen now look muddy. They probably always looked like that, but on older sets it would be harder to notice. 2-inch quad recordings were the standard videotape in the 1970s. They are actually quite rugged, but very expensive. If they reused the tapes, and only archived the old episodes on something like 3/4 inch videotape, that would also explain them not looking so good today. Algr 06:36, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
Title Sequences Section
Would it be better if this section were structured like the one on the One Life to Live page? --Yllianos 21:59, 23 December 2006 (UTC)
Sure as hell would, we gotta work on it! pho3nixflame69
How many episodes?
I found this tv.com link listing some recent episodes with episode numbers like Ep. #9587. That is seriously a lot of TV. I wonder if anyone has ever watched it all. Probably nto even possible at this point. Dalf | Talk 07:36, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
Opening sequence: Alicia Minshew
Personally, concerning the current All My Children opening sequence, I don't think the placement of Alicia Minshew classifies as a "con" of the sequence itself. Who cares what ORDER the cast is in, or who is after Susan Lucci as she has been preceded/followed by several actors during her stint with the show. I'm debating removing it, it's not something that belongs in an encyclopedia to me . —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.21.109.159 (talk) 19:17, August 30, 2007 (UTC)
