Sir John Oldcastle

[edit]

I have raised a citation need against the statement Oldcastle is believed to be the original of Shakespeare's Falstaff. I have read more to explain he may have been based on Sir John FASTOLF. I am sure Oldcastle was unlike Falstaff physically (note depiction of his execution) and in habits.Cloptonson (talk) 20:21, 27 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I have just read the Wikipedia article on Falstaff and found out Shakespeare had decided to call him Oldcastle originally but a then living descendant had opposed. I have lifted the citation from this onto this page and withdrawn the citation need.Cloptonson (talk) 21:57, 30 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
