Cross Referencing Names

[edit]

If we are goinging to cross reference names from two or more different Universe's they should probably be denoted. Ex. The Altair IV mentioned in the Star Trek Universe is obviously NOT the same Altair IV from Forbidden Planet. This maybe confusing to NON-SCI-FI afficionados. More wikiauthors have been adding name refrences to Altair IV. This article is about the Altair IV in "Forbidden Planet" and any other references to the name should not be in this article or we will run into the problem of listing every reference to this planet from many other works. Agreed. ST Reference removed.

Novel Reference

[edit]

I don't believe the "film is based on the novel" - indeed, I believe the novel was a post-production effort Voideater 20:20, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The 2381 Arrival Date

[edit]

I question the year stated in: "It was visited in 2381 by the United Planets Cruiser C-57D, ..."

In the movie introduction the narrator gives the only date as being soon after the year 2200 A.D. And only one year travel time for the C-57D to Altair 4.

Even if using the novel version of the story: "launched on its 10 year voyage (one year to the crew on-board) in 2200..."

2200 + 10 does not equal 2381.

In wikipedia article for Forbidden Planet, under Plot it states: "In the early 2200s, the United Planets Cruiser C-57D is sent to the planet Altair IV..."

Early 2200's makes more sense for C-57D arrival at Altair 4 than the stated year: 2381.

This article

[edit]

Does the planet really warrant its own article ? It is really just background to the film.

Even if it does, this article contains too much about the plot of the film that does not relate to the planet. -- Beardo (talk) 13:05, 21 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Does anything famous deserve an article? And given the presence of a Wikipedia catagory called "Category: Fictional planets"? Of course it dserves an article. As much as any other famous sci-fi concept on Wikipedia.I Is Larry (talk) 13:53, 22 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding Deletion

[edit]

Several earlier references of mine were not clear because the Film does not actually refer to the the C-57D's specific year of launch, while the Novel goes into detail.

I've been a major contributor to the Article. I agree that there was too much of the storyline referenced. However, if, my SECTIONS NOT RELATED to the fictional planet description (other than the very basic storyline) are DELETED, I believe the Article will be able to stand on its own, being more to the point and clearer regarding this popularly known fictional planet. You should raise this at the deletion article. Alastairward (talk) 22:16, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

When to Incorporate Into Forbidden Planet Article

[edit]

The information on the planet's appearance and surface views I originally added from the novel and the motion picture from some time back.

UNLESS you have chosen someone else, I can incorporate the pertinent information re the fictional planet into the Forbidden Planet article whenever I am so advised. PFSLAKES1 (talk) 04:17, 21 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
