Notability / WP:MUSIC

[edit]

As you mention in your edit, WP:MUSIC states "if the musician or ensemble that recorded an album is considered notable, then officially released albums may (my italics) have sufficient notability to have individual articles." - this doesn't imply it automatically does have notability, merely that it might - the album still, as far as I understand the terms of the guideline, has to satify normal notability criteria. With no real notability claimed which make the album special in any fashion, no references or sources, and no charting positions, I cannot see why this album should be considered sufficiently notable (at present) for its own article under current WP guidelines. Although allmusic may have given it 4 out of 5 stars, the notability criteria in WP:MUSIC seem to require that it had a chart position, rather than it just being good.. :-) CultureDrone (talk) 15:15, 8 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This album was quite an event in the Sonic Youth world when it came out. The online publications which reviewed it back then, such as Inkblot, Hyperstation, or UnfURLed are no longer online, unfortunately. The site http://www.inkblotmagazine.com still has it listed, but the review is offline due to apparent bitrot and i couldn't find it in archive.org either, but you'll have to trust me. --Amir E. Cough...cough....an administrator ignoring WP:V, WP:RS, WP:PROVEIT, now I've seen it all ;-) CultureDrone (talk) 14:47, 9 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Don't forget AGF, please. It happens - links sometimes go dead. Inkblot used to be quite an important online publication about indie music. The fact that the site is barely functional now doesn't mean that it didn't review this album. So there - allmusic and Inkblot, two reviews by important publications, enough notability?
You're welcome to AFD it. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 19:22, 9 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
In case you didn't spot the smiley on the end of my previous statement, I was joking :-) CultureDrone (talk) 07:02, 11 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
