==This Is An Ad from the (ABMS) pamphlet and website. No editorial oversight has been applied, esp. considering the high degree of controversy lately about financial irregularities and massive certification processes designed to make millions for this and its respective boards http://www.medpagetoday.com/MeetingCoverage/AMA/39949 in which "AMA Disses ABMS"
So which are the others?
[edit]FTA:
- The American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) is a non-profit physician-led umbrella organization for 24 of the 26 approved medical specialty boards in the United States.
So which are the other two? 95.89.154.146 (talk) 18:45, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
Importance of completeness
[edit]It is of note that the American Osteopathic Association and the American Board of Osteopathic Specialties and the United States Government recognizes Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine as a specialty while the American Board of Medical Specialties does not. Similarly, the American Board of Physician Specialties and the United States Governement recognizes Disaster Medicine as a specialty while the American Board of Medical Specialties does not. This means that there are 26 recognized medical specialties in the United States. I believe that it is important to include:
"24 of 26 recognized specialties"
to acknowledge that ABMS is not an all inclusive source of certification or the sole authority in the United States. I defer to the group to decide if the change is to be retained to include this acknowledgement. Renaissancedoc (talk) 01:29, 14 December 2007 (UTC)
- Hasn't Sleep medicine recently been added as a specialty or sub-specialty in the USA? Should it be mentioned in this article? Thanks. --Hordaland (talk) 23:26, 20 July 2008 (UTC)
Spelling?
[edit]Is there a uniform or accepted way of writing Board Certification as a compound adjective? I mostly see it spelled as "Board Certified physician" but shouldn't it read "board-certified physician" as a hyphenated adjective? Cheers, Mabuse 21:30, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
Monopoly/Antitrust Issues
[edit]Being board certified is highly anticompetitive ... why has there not been a competitor to the ABMS? 130.91.98.31 (talk) 07:38, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
reverted edits
[edit]I reverted some recent edits which claimed there is no evidence that board certified physicians lead to better outcomes, but a simple search revealed several papers which study this claim. In general though this article needs a lot more references. --KarlB (talk) 20:12, 19 May 2012 (UTC)
Articles on particular specialty boards needed
[edit]Eleven of the 24 specialties are shown without links. Articles on each of those boards are needed. --DThomsen8 (talk) 00:17, 6 December 2012 (UTC)
