[edit]Will Dead Presidents III be on the album? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 141.158.48.129 (talk) 01:56, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
American Gangster track listing
[edit]Please do not keep listing the same XXL track listing. The track listing is most likely correct but could be wrong, iTunes was. Just wait for Jay-Z or Def Jam to confirm it, which will leave no room for speculation. --Ayoleftyz 07:17, 16 October 2007 (UTC)
XXL tracklisting should be posted just like the itunes tracklisting since XXL mag is a credible source. Plus there are tracks in the confirmed tracklisting such as Dead Presidents 3 that arent even confirmed - Bren202 12:55, 16 October 2007
- I'm just going to add the XXL track listing and remove the other two. It saves the hassle and the time, also it's most likely correct and XXL is good enough for now I guess. --Ayoleftyz 08:39, 16 October 2007 (UTC)
ye, plus all but 2 of the songs on the xxl tracklisting have been confirmed by other sources - Bren202 1:53, 16 October 2007
leak
[edit]it leaked today. dunno if that's noteworthy or anything, but there you have it81.96.160.171 02:44, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
Samples
[edit]samples used on album here. probably should include somewhere on the page. plus should there be a section for marketing of the album like the american gangster tour? - Bren202 5:59, 29 October 2007
- Once the album is officially released we can add this information. As for the marketing, that can be added later. --Ayoleftyz 03:07, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
Sample list for Say Hello stated that Yasunori Mitsuda was sampled for it, this is incorrect, it was only Tom Brock 68.110.9.167 07:33, 4 November 2007 (UTC)
Not a concept album
[edit]I heard a bootleg of this album(2/5stars) and it doesnt follow the movie. It sounds like the same wannabe gangsta Jayz always portray. Its sad when someone trys to make an album thats always gonna sound like their previous albums, real concept albums are, "The Wall", "The Score", etc;this is crap. —Preceding unsigned comment added by The Blizzard King (talk • contribs) 22:31, 5 November 2007 (UTC)
First of all, you sound like you have an overwhelming bias against Jay-Z. Second, have you seen the movie/heard the album? Almost every song has an obvious connection to the movie. The only songs that really deviate from this format are "Hello Brooklyn 2.0" and "Ignorant Shit". StanHater (talk) 05:15, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
Executive Producer
[edit]Does anyone know who it is?? --KarmaLoop 21:07, 6 November 2007 (UTC)
- Never mind, I purchased the CD and it says:
Executive Producer: Shawn Carter
Executive Producer: Antonio "LA" Reid
--KarmaLoop 21:48, 6 November 2007 (UTC)
iTunes
[edit]uhh...jay pulled the album from itunes because he didnt want ppl to buy individual tracks or something. "As movies are not sold scene by scene, this collection will not be sold as individual singles," Jay said in a statement. to lazy to add to page so if anbyone wants to do it, article can be read here. - Bren202 5:14, 6 November 2007
I preordered the album on iTunes and it still downloaded but it put the artist as various instead of Jay-Z —Preceding unsigned comment added by 142.59.82.166 (talk) 18:48, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit]is that beyonce in the intro and whos the guy? pain in da azz? - Bren202 8:36, 6 November 2007
I'm pretty sure it is, i've asked around and a lot of people say it is but i only have the albulm on my zune so i don't know if she's credited or anything.
Wrong date??
[edit]"On November 9th, Jay-Z appeared on the Charlie Rose Show to discuss the album.[4]"
It's only the 8th of November today...
ye i dont get it either, when i clicked the source it said the 9th but the video didnt even work so..... - Bren202 7:22, 7 November 2007
- yea, I'm confused by that myself... --KarmaLoop 03:51, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
- Well, here is the video, on YouTube, what should we put the date as?--KarmaLoop 22:45, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
- uhh i dont noe wen it was erecorded but ther gonna show the interveiw on the charlie rose on the 9th--Bren202 01:00, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
- Well, here is the video, on YouTube, what should we put the date as?--KarmaLoop 22:45, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
Quote
[edit]the other quote thing looks so much cooler though...--Bren202 04:02, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
- lol yea it does, but it's only suppose to used for 1-2 line quotes..--KarmaLoop 04:25, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
Too Many Reviews
[edit]Too many reviews cited for my taste. For comparison, Sgt. Pepper's has 4 reviews cited. Reviews like nappyafro.com are poorly written and not at all worthy of citation.
- Happy, sir? Also, someone keeps adding the nappyafro review, I keep removing it.. how do I report him for vandalizing?--KarmaLoop 05:46, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
ok, yesterday i put too many reviews...but now i think that reviews are ok...new york times and usa today are quite important review...so don't remove them. I want to say...the The Source's review? There isn't a The Source's review???Ema 2 18:54, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
- I dunno, I don't think The Source has reviewed it yet.--KarmaLoop (talk) 06:17, 17 November 2007 (UTC)
i think people already know sgt. pepper was and is a classic album hence why no other reviews are needed. Since American Gangster is a new album, it is important for people to know how many favorable reviews it got since people are still buying it
yeah, i agree with you...Illmatic has an huge number of reviews, too many reviews for me...but in this page(American Gangster, that is a new album)there are a little few reviews...i think that we can add, for example, Usa today and Amazon reviews...the Black Album has Amazon's review, why American Gangster can't?Ema 2 (talk) 13:46, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
- reviews like amazon arent proffesinal and dont belong in the reviews section--Bren202 (talk) 23:20, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
ok, but tell me...why in the Black Album page there is Amazon's review?Ema 2 (talk) 21:54, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
- Does amazon have professional reviews? Anyway, you're not supposed to have that many reviews per WP:ALBUMS. —KarmaLoop (talk) 22:54, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
Uncredited
[edit]the uncredited artist shouldn't be in the tracklisting section. maybe just make a not of them in the guest section. but w/e. ima just leave it for now--Bren202 01:01, 10 November 2007 (UTC)
Mafioso rap
[edit]should this be one of the genres?--KarmaLoop 07:07, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit]Composers i dont know if its neccecary to add to page just puttin it out there if anyone wants to know.--Bren202 22:03, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

Success
[edit]On the song Success in the beginning he takes a rhyme from eminem's i'm back could this be mentioned.
- Why should it be? --KarmaLoop (talk) 07:07, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
- ye, i agree its not that notable--Bren202 (talk) 08:00, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
I was just bringing it up i was just saying he took a few rhymes thought it could be something it's fine that it's not notable it's just i realized it and thought i would bring it up. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.215.157.55 (talk) 00:56, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
- Well, he did take a couple of bars from that song, but a lot of rappers do the same thing. It isn't notified usually unless it sparks some controversy I'm guessing. —KarmaLoop (talk) 04:09, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
Alright thx i was just bringin it up —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.215.157.55 (talk) 03:03, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
Somebody added it to the page marshall mathers lp it wasn't me i found it but did not put it up i think it's under trivia or something. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.215.157.55 (talk) 23:41, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

- wow, I didn't even notice that.. thanks for pointing it out. —KarmaLoop (talk) 23:01, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

GA nomination on hold
[edit]Please leave a note on my talk page when you've resolved this stuff
There should be an {{otheruses}} tag at the top of the page, pointing to American Gangster or a relevant dab page.{{flagicon}} is generally used for the release date in the infobox, rather than linking to U.S.- "Jay-Z released the a cappella version of the album on his birthday, 4 December 2007." (lead) - This isn't mentioned again in the article; why's it in the lead?
On that note, I'd like to see the lead expanded - it should at least make mention of the iTunes stuff, the complex lyrics, the high sales, etc..."Def Jam executive Tracey Waples noted..." - Def Jam should be wlinkedRef 4 should include the |date= parameter (9 November 2007 being the date), and ref 5 should use the {{YouTube}} template ({{YouTube|nzmAav8yCkI|Charlie Rose - Jay - Z}}) At least one of the refs (probably #4) should instead appear at the end of the quote."Jay-Z stated "as movies are not sold scene by scene, this collection will not be sold as individual singles."" - Source/Ref?- "Those who pre-ordered and paid for the entire album from iTunes, however, were still able to download it." - remove the "however", get a ref
Ref 9's title shouldn't be in italics- The lyrics section could be better introduced in your own words, rather than just jumping in with AMG quotes.
"Pitchfork Media noted that..." --> "Pitchfork Media reviewer Tom Breihan noted that...""So far, Jay-Z has released two singles from American Gangster." - Reword and wlinks --> "Two singles have been released from American Gangster."""Blue Magic" was the first one released on 20 September 2007,..." - Reword --> "The first, "Blue Magic", was released on 20 September 2007,...""The tracks name is a reference" - apostrophe (track's)"sold in the movie American Gangster" - Movie name should be in italics"The second single, "Roc Boys (And the Winner Is)..." released on 10 October 2007, has reached 63 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100" - Reword --> "The second single, "Roc Boys (And the Winner Is)..." was released on 10 October 2007, and reached 63 on the Billboard Hot 100."- I'm fairly confident the album has charted in Australia (on the ARIA charts) - http://australian-charts.com should cover it if it has. http://charts.org.nz for New Zealand (RIANZ) - I think it would have charted there too.
