Lead

• If you quote a critic in the lead, you need to put the citation there.
• "adds a touch of pathos" to the song, according to music critics. → Did more than one critic specifically write the words "adds a touch of pathos"? I think that only one did, therefore better of to write the name of that critic, or "according to one critic."
• Link music critic
• "Its lyrics features" → "features" in this sentence should be singluar. I know you say about two different things, but plural doesn't sound right.
• Critics said that "American Life", its following single "Hollywood" and "I'm So Stupid", were an extension of American Life, and an advice "to get out from underneath that cloud, the world of illusion." → This needs re-wording, it's too intricate and doesn't make sense. What do you mean by they are an extension of the album? They are on the album already. Who gave the advice?
• Third paragraph: Again, if you are going to quote, you need to add the citations.
• Despite mostly negativity by critics for the song, → Re-word. This really reads bad. "Despite receiving mostly negative reviews from critics,"
• "some good charting" → This could be improved.
• "featuring she in front" → She? Change to "her"
• To be honest this lead should only be three paragraphs long. They are four quite small paragraphs, and some information is not needed here.

A few things:

• I removed the genres, as they were completely unsourced. I also uploaded a better cover image.
• Updated fair use rationales need to be added to the single cover and the sample.
• "American Life" was released digitally on March 25, 2003, through AOL." Now, I can't see the source for this, but this is most definitely not correct. AOL is a website. It premiered on AOL (which a lot of songs did back in the day), but it was not "digitally released", as in made available for purchase, on that date.
• US$0,49 cents to US$1,49 --> A price of something does NOT belong in an article.
• Release history section? Since when is that a requirement on an article?

• Additionally, what is going on with the track listing references? They all randomly have two dots after Maverick. Warner Bros. Records is also missing from the publisher, and Format should specify which one. For example, "UK CD single 1". Liner notes isn't the right word to use, either. Liner notes "are the writings found in booklets which come inserted into the compact disc jewel case". CD single releases never have booklets inside of them. I'd say "inlay" would be the proper word, so the format would be, for example, "UK CD single inlay".

I can't tell if this has already passed, but I see several instances of poor grammar and improper sentence structure right in the lead and it has just been protected to stop an edit war. Beeblebrox (talk) 03:39, 3 August 2012 (UTC)
