The significance of the "American Solutions" article is that it is already referenced within the article entited "Newt Gingrich" (which is otherwise devoid of any explanation or definition of this organization). In addition, it is an organization involving a former Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives who is also a serious potential candidate for the Presidency of the United States for 2008 and whose decision to announce is being influenced by the advent of this organization.Jintili 05:42, 10 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think that this topic is notable. There are multiple independent, notable, reliable, verifiable sources about it. Here are a few: [1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6], [7], [8], [9]. I think those sources—particularly the last one, where Tom Delay is specifically addressing the group's purpose and viability—clearly show that this topic is a notable one. I have to confess that I just stumbled across this discussion on a user talk page, so I have no real interest in this article, per se. I am not planning on expanding it, but I thought the sources above warranted a mention. I probably won't do much else to this article, so I hope someone else does. Page Move

[edit]

I'd like to propose this page be moved to American Solutions for Winning the Future, which, is the proper name of the org. --SXT40 08:04, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think that is probably the right thing to do. Make American Solutions a redirect. With an ambiguous sort of name like that I bet it'll eventually be a disambig, though. DickClarkMises 13:15, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed... What the hey, I'll give it a shot... First page move, yaaay! --SXT40 13:16, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Expansion

Is over 6 months old. Has been moved here. Vinh1000 (talk) 11:32, 5 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Major Expansion

[edit]

I think this page really needs to be worked on or merged with Newt Gingrich's web page. It is currently not more than a simple stub, it doesn't even cover the major campaigns that American Solutions has advocated for. I would do this, but I'm currently busy with my own work. If there's anyone who can help this page, it would be greatly helpful. --Farmer88 (talk) 19:48, 4 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Criticism of fund-raising methods

[edit]

Disagree with reverting them. Don't understand how they can be labeled WP:UNDUE when they actually happened. If Gingrich's organization is defrauding people, that's certainly not a minor thing. If you'd like to find ways to work Gingrich's response to those accusations in there, you should definitely do so, but removing it is tantamount to whitewashing a perfectly reasonable criticism. Even if they don't remain in the Gingrich article proper, they should definitely remain here. --Stick Fig (talk) 17:57, 3 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

First of all, there is no actual accusation of "mail fraud" involved here, nor any suggestion anyone is being "defrauded". The only person who has used the word "scam" is Rachel Maddow, and based on the sources provided, it should be clear she's not alleging material wrongdoing, she's just using hyperbole to criticize him. Neither the Dallas Morning News nor the Huffington Post articles allege or use the word "scam". Meanwhile, the YouTube link is WP:COPYVIO and Raw Story is at best questionable[10] as a WP:RELIABLE source. The actual events discussed, about The Lodge in the first paragraph, is not "scam-like"; it's obviously a case where a non-profit accidentally solicited funds from an organization it would not normally have solicited funds from, then disassociated itself. There's no "there" there, and it doesn't belong on either article, Newt Gingrich or American Solutions. I'm removing them both. Stargat (talk) 19:48, 3 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Fuzzy Corporate Speak

[edit]

The organisation's aim is "engaging citizens and elected officials in a dialogue intended to address solutions to problems affecting American society." Please. It couldn't be more vague and meaningless? A dialogue intended to address solutions? That covers just about every conversation ever. Including this message. Isn't there a more to-the-point description available somewhere? FCTS 142 (talk) 11:34, 10 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Neutrality Dispute

[edit]

This article has some pretty seriuos neutrality issues and reads like an information pamphlet written by the parent group. The article makes no metion of the fact that this 527 group is a political action committee. It also takes credit for acomplishments that are unverifiable using the propter hoc ergo propter hoc falicy. And there is an existing comment asking for verification of a claim. -Vcelloho (talk) 07:05, 17 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Made a few small changes including changing purpose to PAC. While a criticism section included in earlier revisions was removed for being equally over the top and bias some level of compromise should be reach. Perhaps a criticism section with better reasoned explinations than a few shock stories. -Vcelloho (talk) 07:34, 17 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
