Lead section[edit]

  • The (bracketed section) is a bit extensive. Would it work with the names outside the brackets? So something like "Americus, originally named Rey del Caredes and occasionally raced as Rey del Carreres (foaled 1892, died 1910) was..."?
  • "who was exported to England" - surely he was exported to the United Kingdom? :)
    • Oh. No. He was exported to England (grins). That's what the sources state. While England was part of the UK, in racing terms, there is a vast difference between being exported to the UK and to England... (imagine a Thoroughbred stud farm in the Highlands....). Ealdgyth - Talk 18:24, 29 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
      • I can imagine that easily; "Americus was a thoroughbred horse who ended his life with a closed-bolt gun following years of alcoholism and heroin abuse" :P. Ironholds (talk) 19:13, 29 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • variants on "exported to England" in two successive sentences there.
    • As above, but I've removed a gratitious "to England" to cut repetition. Ealdgyth - Talk 18:24, 29 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • "up until he was nine years old" - is the "up" necessary? I see it as "until he was nine years old" later in the article.
  • "daughter of Lady Josephine who was the daughter of Americus' daughter Americus Girl." - could we simplify to just "his great-granddaughter" and leave the more lengthy explanation for the body of the article?

Background[edit]

  • Seems largely fine, although the first two sentences seem very short.

Racing career[edit]

  • "Americus raced some " - have you been hanging around the South? :P. "raced some" - "raced occasionally" or something.
    • My mother's family is Southern and I lived in Texas for 20 years... yeah, I've "hung around" the south a bit - I do a mean black-eyed-peas and ham hocks with cornbread... Fixed. Ealdgyth - Talk 18:24, 29 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
      • Ah, I like to consider myself an adopted tar-heel. Y'all have the best slang (I'm a particular fan of the "bless their heart" and "I'm sorry, but" memes - you've rendered hideous insults socially acceptable!). Ironholds (talk) 19:13, 29 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Everything else seems grand :). Ironholds (talk) 12:59, 28 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
