Winnemucca Lake Feeding Grounds?

[edit]

Could somebody provide a source for the statement "In recent years the number of pelican nests have dropped dramatically, due to their Winnemuca Lake feeding grounds that had dangerous levels of toxic pesticides and human disturbance."? Winnemucca Lake has been dry since the '30s, so the Pelican's can't have been eating fish from there recently. Perhaps the Lahontan Reservoir or the Stillwater marshes?

I could not find data for this statement but did find a news article which I footnoted and changed the sentence.
Also, here is a NYTimes piece dated 1988 that gives a very good summary of the issue of water vs. farmers in Truckee :River area of Nevada http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=940DE2D8143AF935A15757C0A96E948260&sec=&spon=&pagewanted=all
