Why "Austrian"?

[edit]

Neither Hofer's birth place nor the place where he worked - Salzburg - was Austrian in the 17th century. Salzburg didn't become Austrian until 1805, was Bavarian from 1809-1816, and has been Austrian since then, which, however, doesn't make anyone living there long before that time an Austrian. Immanuel Kant wasn't a Russian, Herder, Eichendorff or Gerhart Hauptmann no Poles, although Königsberg is Russian Kaliningrad now, Mohrungen in East Prussia as well as Upper Silesia are now in Poland. Is Santa Claus a Turkish saint? His Myra is in the province of Antalya in Turkey. --Marschner (talk) 17:12, 26 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
