Google investment?

[edit]

the google history page http://www.google.com/intl/en/corporate/history.html mentions Mr. Bechtolsheim's initial investment at $100,000 while here it says $200,000.

The Forbes article states: "German-born electrical engineer invested $200,000 in a quirky search engine in 1998. Google returned the favor—and $1.5... " Ray3055 (talk)

More recent Forbes articles say $100K. I think the confusion was because Dave also invested the same, for a total of $200K between the two of them. Should be clarified now. W Nowicki (talk) 16:34, 11 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Jewish

[edit]

somone keeps vandalizing and taking off the fact that he was a jewish immigrant sourced correctly. Ill try to get to the bottom fo this. Wikipedian style :). http://www.jstandard.com/articles/2402/1/The-Story-of-Sergey-Brin

and

http://web.archive.org/web/20070319204310/http://www.jstandard.com/articles/2402/1/The-Story-of-Sergey-Brin

hmm interesting. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mercury888 (talkcontribs) 09:12, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If the source article was changed, that would imply they originally got it wrong and later corrected themselves. If the current version of the article does not say that he is Jewish, there would seem to be two ways to interpret this: the later version is the correct one; or, the article is inconsistent with itself and thus neither version is a reliable source. By either interpretation, this source is not usable to support saying that he is Jewish in the article.
It's also worth noting that in the article's edit history, an editor says in the first person "I am not of Jewish descent." By WP rules this comment is not itself a valid source, but it's a reminder that WP:BLP should be carefully considered.--NapoliRoma (talk) 14:26, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Here's an easy solution: don't say either that he is Jewish, or that he is not, at least until/unless a 100% RS is found. For myself, I'd trust the current version of the New Jersey Jewish Standard article over the old one.
FWIW, the "I am not Jewish" edits came from user 75.104.166.162, which is hosted by WildBlue, a Satellite-based ISP. Cheers, CWC 07:30, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Birthday

[edit]

In the de.wikipedia he's born *1956. In en.wikipedia he's born *1955 and below his picture his birthday is June 15, 1950 (1950-06-15) (age 58). Who's right??! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 134.61.45.83 (talk) 22:03, 23 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The German Wikipedia article says 1955, perhaps from the Stern article in the links. I do not speak German but it just says 1955. So would feel better if we cited a source for the birthdate! W Nowicki (talk) 17:12, 12 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
