Primary topic has been repeatedly challenged

[edit]

If there is no consensus primary topic, there is no primary topic. The default is disambiguation, or a broad concept.

A discussion needs to come to a consensus to establish a primary topic.

At 00:40, 6 April 2014, a {{redirect3|Anglican liturgy}} hatnote was placed on Book of Common Prayer.

The contemporary version of this since deleted template simply generated the hatnote:

"Anglican liturgy" redirects here.

...and populated Category:Missing redirects which I patrol. In response, at 14:24, 7 April 2014, I created the redirect.

It did not say "For other uses, see Anglican liturgy (disambiguation)." (although the current version does). The disambiguation wasn't created until 18:29, 21 June 2022.

The corresponding title-case Anglican Liturgy redirect had been created at 21:49, 19 March 2005 and targeted Book of Common Prayer for well over a decade. That's been the de facto primary topic, but recently it's been repeatedly asserted that Christian liturgy § Anglican Communion is primary, or no topic is primary. I have a problem with the idea that an article section about a different topic (Communion) which doesn't even mention the term "Anglican liturgy" is primary topic for liturgy, so, no primary topic it is. wbm1058 (talk) 17:26, 12 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I'm performing a round-robin move in order to preserve the page history discussed above. – wbm1058 (talk) 17:39, 12 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with your move. Veverve (talk) 17:46, 12 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
In the future–preferably before the end of the year–I'll complete an article on "Anglican liturgy" as a general topic encompassing the Books of Common Prayer, associated texts, alternative service books, and derivative liturgies. Similarly, I'll trim the scope of and improve the precision of citations within the article Book of Common Prayer. This move might be only temporary, but until such a page and the modifications I mention are created, I think this move is wise. ~ Pbritti (talk) 20:25, 12 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
