Title change

[edit]

Looking at the Sanskrit the title looks a bit odd! (Sanskrit: अञ्नेयरासन; IAST: Añneyarāsana). Perhaps something like the IAST transliteration would be better? Dean Turbo (talk) 12:37, 28 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  1. Is the Sanskrit correct?
  2. If yes to 1., is the transliteration correct?Curb Chain (talk) 22:30, 28 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I think it's the lack of an R in the title that bothers me. Perhaps it should be renamed to Añneyarāsana and have a redirect from Anneyarasana? Dean Turbo (talk) 11:01, 6 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thinking about it, 'Anjaneya: "Son of Anjani"' would suggest the current title is fine. I will speak to my mother-in-law, she will know. Dean Turbo (talk) 17:16, 6 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I've standardized all of the asana articles to english without diacritics, except for 2 articles, pending verification of the sanskrit. I don't think this should be moved to a title with the IAST diacritics.Curb Chain (talk) 22:43, 6 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I've been worrying about the transliteration but I think the Sanskrit could be wrong. I'll change it to match the N-J combination in Patanjali. Dean Turbo (talk) 17:34, 13 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I don't know what had happened, but the names on this page were definitely all over the place. I've done my best to clean up the devanagari and the IAST across the page (and added the mention of the iliopsoas and expanded list of skeletal actions). As for the IPA, I am not particularly confident in it, but it looks like it still is saying the incorrect 'anjareyasana' so if we have any IPA experts I would love an edit assist. Let me know any feedback on these edits and the move back to 'anjaneyasana'.Iṣṭa Devata (talk) 21:58, 7 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Merger proposal

[edit]

I propose that Anjaneyasana be merged into Lunge (exercise). I think that the content in the Anjaneyasana article can easily be explained in the context of Lunge, and the Lunge article is of a reasonable size that the merging of Anjaneyasana will not cause any problems as far as article size or undue weight is concerned. no Declined The yoga project makes progress a number of articles may be created which could be interpreted within the context of related gymnastics exercise. However merging all the lunge based asana is not a good idea for a number of reasons:
  1. Within the context of Yoga different asanas are individually notable, independently of the proposed gymnastics heritage. This is not the case in the scope of Gymnastics, that is to say that in the context of gymnastics or power-lifting different variation of the lunge are not considered notable.
  2. One of the Yoga project's stated goal is to provide uniform high quality articles in the context of Yoga. Within the context of the lunge it would not be possible to do the subject justice. Yoga is not just a collection of excecise, it is also a philosophical system:
    1. Each asana has unique physical challenges and most confer different benefits on the practitioner - however these are only relevant within the scope of the Yoga. E.g. without yoga technique, breathing and concentration one should not expect a power lifter stessing his musculature with a 175 lb. lunge to benefit from reduced stress.
    2. Yoga has it's highly technical nomeculture which would be out of place for readers/editors who are concerned with gymnastics, e.g. visual focus (dristi), energetic centers (chakras) which are engaged using bhandas, breathing techniques to harness prana and aprana, and extended detours to Hindu mythology in the etymology sections.
  3. Integrating all the Yoga lunges would be create a very long article as it would have to cover Anjaneyasana, Vīrabhadrāsana I & Vīrabhadrāsana III, Trikonasana, Parivrtta trikonasana, Parivrtta Baddha Parvakonasana and other which include variants much in need of further expansion.
  4. However there is already a section in lunge on yoga so I recommend:
    1. This section be updated to mention the names of different yoga lunges
    2. A gallery may be added to the lunge article to show different lunge including those used in Yoga.
    3. Yoga lunges could include a link to Lunge in their see also section and vica versa. BO | Talk 11:11, 11 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Very well said! Morganfitzp (talk) 14:01, 11 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
