Directed Godard's Films[edit]

'It has been rumored she co-directed most of Godard's films in this era.' Rumoured where? No book i have read has mentioned this - but they have mentioned how poor Anna's French was in the early 60s. She studied pronunciation in preparation for La Religeuse (originally planned for 1962) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jeffcb25 (talkcontribs) 14:39, 22 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Dennis Berry[edit]

she was married to another Dennis Berry, not the one in the link http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dennis_Berry —Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.127.128.181 (talk) 12:57, 2 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Books[edit]

'has written three novels'; 'has written two books'. Is it two or three?

About double nationality[edit]

Neither does the French nor the US government. But this has to be understood carefully. I am a double French/US national and hold both passports. The "do not recognize double citizenship" means that when I'm in the US, I'm treated as a US citizen and nothing else, and similarly when I am in France: they treat as a French national and nothing else. But otherwise, I'm free to use any of my passports when I travel abroad. I vote in both France and the US. Yet, they "officially do not recognize double nationality". As far as I know, very few countries actually *forbid* double citizenship (North Korea is one). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.58.147.83 (talk) 16:30, 26 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

when Anna Karina and Jean-Luc Godard divorced[edit]

This reference article , already listed among your references , says their divorce was final Dec 21, 1964 . That discussion , weaving relationship details of Anna and Jean-Luc with production notes for their then-current films , is detailed , and the dates of films discussed around the time of the divorce are consistent with dates reported elsewhere for those titles . Did they remarry and divorce a second time in 1967 ? I do not have access to the official vital statistics held by the government of France , but this is simply a matter of fact ... which someone should settle .

Your own article is even disputing itself , where it says they divorced in 1967 (same as the wikipedia Godard article , IMDB , and many others) at the top , but claims a 1965 divorce under the section "personal life" ...

The importance of this small detail (as pointed out by others) is that some of their best collaborative work was done after the divorce in a very "emotionally challenging" environment ...

If an editor decides to correct this page , I expect the correction to be made to the Godard article also ... There is already a talk section "supporting" a 1964 divorce date for that page , unanswered since 2009 . The evidently "hostile working relationship" between Anna and Jean-Luc on the set of their 3 later films (Alphaville , Pierrot le fou , Made in the USA) is fully discussed in the reference article and in the Richard Brody book below .

The Brody book Everything is Cinema is indexed by google , but , unfortunately , page 186 , which the author of that "supporting" claim cites in his talk entry , only states that Anna and Jean-Luc filed for divorce (in 1964) . (I really don't believe that google-book page link I provided will work , so look for it in this search page if it doesn't) . The divorce date may be somewhere in that 720 page book , but I haven't found it yet . I did find Brody , writing in the past tense about Godard filming the 1965 movie Pierrot le fou :
His divorce from Anna Karina and her relationship with Ronet left Godard ...
on page 241 (use this search page instead) . Because this book seems to be a careful review of Godard's history , I take this as "substantial evidence" that the 1967 divorce date is erroneous , and support for the Dec 1964 date .

Additionally , in support of the 1964 date , I read in this Cineaste Magazine article again discussing the Brody book , the following quote
A Married Woman, made in the year when the couple divorced
You can see at IMDB that movie was released in 1964 .

On the other hand , such prestigious sources as The NY Times seem to imply the divorce occurred in 1967 ... It is not easy to dismiss these claims . The ambiguous words The NY Times actually used were : their 1967 breakup , which accurately describes the end of their artistic collaboration , and does not contradict the other sources I quoted ; the word divorce does not appear there . I hope this helps ...

I wonder if this is enough to confirm the Dec 1964 date , or not ; but , either way , someone may wish to carry this matter to a conclusion .

Karina Deserves A Better Photo[edit]

The dreary 1994 photo used in the article is completely inadequate. Throughout her young years Karina was known as a striking iconic beauty, and this was an element in her films. Even in middle and old age, she has remained a distinctively lovely woman. The article needs two new photos--ideally, one from an early famous role like Angela in A WOMAN IS A WOMAN--and a recent one which does justice to her graceful old age. Her birth name[edit]

Some sources mention her birth name as “Hanne Karin Blarke Bayer” and others as “Hanne Karin Bayer”. Which one should be here? Vinhard (talk) 18:37, 27 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
