Pretentious 'royal ' descent ?[edit]

Is there any proof whatsoever that there is a legitimate (or even illegitimate) line of descent from King Charles? The Lords (and Conservative Party) is full of people making such claims without a shred of evidence to substantiate it, traditionally to latch on to a free 'hereditary peerage' and a lifetime of dossing on the backs of the UK taxpayers.
