I believe this to be valid and helpful

"Several songs on this album exhibit what can only be described as a florid, somewhat self-conscious style. However, their absurdist fantasy quality presages the fully realized artistry of Bringing It All Back Home and the succeeding albums."

Properly understood, this is a neutral observation. "Florid, somewhat self-conscious style" is not pejorative. Chimes of Freedom is florid and self-conscious - and it's also, undeniably, a work of art. Michaelmross 02:22, 18 November 2005 (UTC)

Relevance of material

This article is largely about events that took place around the time Another Side was being written and recorded but have little to do with the album itself other than by inference. The Recording Sessions section, which makes up the bulk of the article, meanders through the Beatles, psychedelics, book publishing deals and other sidetrips without showing a connection with the album's songs or the sessions themselves (not mentioned until the last couple paragraphs). There's a possibility some of these anecdotes could be re-told in a separate section following a more thorough account of Dylan's trip to Europe, his hopes of meeting up with Suze Rotolo (which is why he ended up in Greece) and some information on the writing of specific songs. As it stands, however, the article is being used as an excuse to dwell on juicy tidbits that are at best tangential to the album. Allreet (talk) 14:04, 7 June 2009 (UTC)

Article assessment

The Another Side article needs extensive work, and accordingly I'm changing the class assessment to C.

• Looking over my above comments, I think I needed to chill a bit in terms of tone, but the essential points still hold. The Recording Session section has very little to do with the album's recording, and essential parts of the story aren't told.
• Though some existing text sbould be trimmed, most is appropriate. However, background should be treated as such and more relevant material needs to be included and presented first. For example, the reader has to wade through a dozen paragraphs or so before finding out the album was completed in one night, one of the most notable facts about the album and one of the few mentioned here that has anything to do with the actual recording session.
• Most of the existing text lacks citations.

Overall, what I think is needed, then, is research to source what's here and new research and writing to better document the album's significance both as a work (IMHO mid importance) and in regards to its place in Dylan's development (mid to high importance). I agree with you. I was tempted to change it myself. I think there may be a few other album articles that may warrant a lower rating, mostly due to missing citations. Rlendog (talk) 01:09, 9 October 2009 (UTC)

I Shall be Free No. 10

I removed the link for this song as it linked back to this article (Another Side of Bob Dylan). I do believe "I Shall be Free No. 10" deserves its own page, however...Goturgoat (talk) 14:40, 7 July 2011 (UTC)
