Hey! Surprised we didn't have this before! Gorilla was awesome. Nice work! Zagalejo^^^ 06:04, 9 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sources

[edit]

{{Authority control}} in the article footer links LC and other catalog data.

1983 and 1992 winners at Greenaway Medal Living Archive (2007?). CILIP.

Those CILIP retrospective citations are in the article for some time now.
At Kirkus Reviews online, search "Browne, Anthony"; then "Refine Search: All" hits reviews of perhaps thirty books by our Anthony Browne, evidently not including Gorilla.

(edit that link. "Refine Search: All" gets some more hits, albeit messy) --P64 (talk) 01:21, 2 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Today I completed the list of Works by reference to

and the U.S. LCCatalog (all listings for Browne with other writers).

Here are some WorldCat and LCCat data on the collaborations (now in section 2.2, "As illustrator"):

http://lccn.loc.gov/86000112 "Summary: All sorts of scary creatures knock on the door and ask to be let in but the door only opens for Daddy who comes in with hot chocolate ready to tell a story."
The Topiary Garden (1993, 64pp) http://lccn.loc.gov/94027867 "Summary: Camping with her father and brother at a motorcycle rally, young artist Liz Jackson meets an old woman named Sally Beck who disguised herself as a boy in her youth and worked as a gardener's assistant at Carlton Hall." —63pp so i did not label this one picture book or novel, etc
compare http://www.worldcat.org/title/daydreamer/oclc/31518784 (London: Cape, 96pp)

Criticism section

[edit]

I removed the section titled "Criticism of Browne's works" as the account of Ellen Handler Spitz's psychological analysis of Willy the Wimp was poorly expressed and out of context and thus unfair to both authors. Robina Fox (talk) 01:18, 7 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Willy the Wimp is in the Kirkus Reviews archive (above). Namely, [1]. Quote: "To spoof the body-building mania, .... To an extent, then, the book is a comic strip with a single haw-haw punch line. It also works, though, as a timely laugh at body-over-mind." (1985-03-01)
That archive of short reviews also covers two Willy sequels --and Zoo; Bear Hunt; and Voices in the Park --to name a few that I recognize from this article.
