Untitled[edit]

"He is widely acknowledged by the music industry, much thanks for being the creative director of the visual output of prominent bands like U2 and Depeche Mode, both for whom he have handled the principal promotion and sleeve photography for more than a decade. However, he has failed to establish himself in fine arts or fashion photography. The established auction houses rarely deal with his work, and the secondary market for his work is yet limited. As for all popular artists with strong visual identity with wide appeal, his work has been object to imitation as well as derison as commercial and aimed for the bedroom walls of troubled teenagers. "

This seems like a highly subjective paragraph, if it's true it needs to be backed up with facts. Sunhawk 20:26, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I removed this image from the article as it did not constitute proper fair use. You cannot just use the image to identify the subject. However, it could be used to illustrate a paragraph about the photo itself and what its significance was. howcheng {chat} 17:00, 30 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Music video filmography[edit]

The section below was removed from the article because of lack of reliable sources. Should someone wish to provide them, here is the text to work with. Besides, I find the list very helpful.

  • In his own words Corbijn got into directing music videos more "by accident" than out of some desire to pursue a career in it. [citation needed] Yet, with the success of his early videos, which, with their very stylized and "arty" black & white Look attracted more and more musicians who felt that Corbijn was the right man to take control over their videos, as at the time most videos were cliched and silly. Corbijn`s videos always seem very simplistic in their essence, and still contain profound insights into the bands` inner worlds. An example of that can be U2`s classic "One" video [featuring Bono`s dad] or Depeche Mode`s legendary "Enjoy the Silence" video which to date is considered one of the greatest videos ever made, and it strikes just with it`s simplicity. As Depeche Mode`s Alan Wilder mentions in the documentary "Depeche Mode - 1985-86 The songs aren`t good enough, there aren`t any singles and it`ll never get played on the radio" [from the Remasters series DVD`s] - "It was easy to work with him. He had one camera and a producer and one other person, may be, doing a bit of lighting and that really was all that was to it, you know and we really liked that. We`d been used to up to that point, working with big film crews with disinterested sparks in the background taking a piss, while you`re trying to do something that`s not natural to you anyway. [...] So when this person came along, it was fresh, it was easy with a bit of humor. "

Depeche Mode and U2 have been long time collaborators with Anton Corbijn, with him doing album artwork and videos for them.

On the "Directors Label: The Work Of Anton Corbijn" Kurt Cobain would say about the acclaimed "Heart-Shaped Box" video: "That video has come closer to what I have in my mind than any other video."
