Born in Estonian SSR

[edit]

Some Estonian patriots say, Estonian SSR never existed. They want to eradicate the fact, that there was a Soviet Republic for some decades. But that seems irrelevant here. --88.217.127.62 (talk) 14:16, 6 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

By International law, the occupation and annexation to Soviet Empire are both illegal, so by similarity, you don't call Poland Generalgouvernement or Estonia Reichskommissariat Ostland, so don't say that Estonia is ESSR. user:suwa 01:00, 3 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Given that Anton Vaino is a Russian diplomat and civil servant, it does seem important that his article mentions that he was born in the predecessor state to the state he now serves. Although Estonia continued to de iure exist, the de facto regime, that is, Soviet Union, was not only firmly in place, but Vaino's grandfather even was Estonia's communist leader at around the time Vaino was born. Obscuring these facts for legal matters makes the article prone to misunderstanding by someone not familiar with the topic. (Such as, why would someone from a Western style democracy, which one learns after clicking the link that Estonia is, "defect" to Russia? If one wants to popularise the fact that Estonian SSR was not legally recognized, then it's the article on Estonian SSR that details that well, not the article on Estonia.)— Preceding unsigned comment added by Eykeklos Omnia (talkcontribs) 28 July 2019 (UTC)
