Is he adopted?

[edit]

He doesn't look like his father is an ethnic German. he looks 100% black and not mixed race — Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.54.207.116 (talk) 13:27, 29 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Fair question. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/51175396 refers to 'Sierra Leonean parents' (plural), but https://omasports.com/index.php/2018/06/04/how-antonio-rudigers-visit-to-sierria-leone-changed-his-life/ confirms Mathias as his dad's name--MartinUK (talk) 14:32, 1 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Both his parents are African but their nationality and how they came to Germany is not clear. His father is described as a German citizen in multiple sources, and is mother is “from Sierra Leone.” The Medium article written by him says they fled Sierra Leone during the country’s civil war, which started in 1991 (he was born in 1993). However, it’s not clear why his father is described as being “from Berlin” in the dfb.de source but his mother is always called an immigrant. Possibly his mother is not a German citizen, but they are both immigrants from Sierra Leone. Fried Pork Dumplings (talk) 02:55, 8 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I'd like to add a bit more information in the initial bio such as a small piece on the player's personality, his playing style and key attributes, his career progression, previous clubs and a small piece on his international career and his recent success in the Confederations Cup.
