This article needs better categorization, like "Serb politicians from Austria-Hungary", "Serb journalists from Austria-Hungary". Kubura 06:49, 24 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

calender/calendar?

[edit]

The article says "Fabris was also the Editor of the "Dubrovnik" calender between 1897 and 1903". Does this refer to a calendar (like a timekeeping device) or a calender (like a press), or some other meaning? I am currently fixing all calender for calendar typos that I find on Wikipedia, but prefer not to guess at their context. -- KathrynLybarger (talk) 03:23, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Croat

[edit]

I provided reliable, encyclopedic source which explicitly says he is of Croatian origin born in Croatia:

Premda je bio rodom Hrvat, u Dubrovniku se pridružio manjinskom srpskokatoličkom krugu intelektualaca te postao vlasnik, izdavatelj i odgovorni urednik glasila Srpske stranke, Dubrovnik (1896, br. 1 — 1904, br. 4), pokretač i urednik kalendara Dubrovnik (1897–1903), Srpske dubrovačke biblioteke i vlasnik, izdavatelj i odgovorni urednik časopisa Srđ (1902, br. 1 — 1904, br. 18). — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sheldonium (talkcontribs) 25 August 2018 (UTC)

This source is biased, i.e. Croatian. It is not neutral in this case, i.e. not reliable. Jingiby (talk) 15:10, 25 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Find me reliably source that says he was of serbian origin then. And it is not biased as it is encyclopedic. --Sheldonium (talk) 15:11, 25 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
And stop vandalising by removing encyclopedic sources. You clearly have personal issues with Croats. Thank you. --Sheldonium (talk) 15:13, 25 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
He was Croatian renegade, from the so called "Catholic Serbs," who appeared towards the end of the nineteenth century. Such writters called themselves "our people," "Slavs," as Matija Ban and Luko Zore to Antun Fabris etc. Jingiby (talk) 15:22, 25 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
And he still was of Croatian origin as the same reliable, encyclopedic source explicitly says. --Sheldonium (talk) 15:25, 25 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I will describe his identification supported by reliable source about his personal opinion, keeping his origin then. Jingiby (talk) 15:30, 25 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Deal. --Sheldonium (talk) 15:34, 25 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The fact that the source is written in Croatian, and not English, it does not make it biased. An English source, written in English or any other language, could have been written by the Serb, as well as by a Croat. The author might have had his sources from Serbian sources, so he got the wrong i.e. biased information. It is possible that the author biases because of his own personal reasons. However, encyclopedic sources are considered the most unbiased, and the most reliable, no matter in which language was written. Thank you. --Sheldonium (talk) 15:43, 25 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with you as a whole, but in such confused cases I am very cautious. Regards. Jingiby (talk) 15:49, 25 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It looks like this is referring to this edit, which added a (badly formatted) reference to the Croatian Biographical Lexicon article about this person. It does explicitly state that he was "by descent Croat", but this does not actually justify this lead section edit, because that goes beyond the scope of what the source says. At the same time, this is a well-known tertiary source (it's an encyclopedic lexicon published by a reputable institution), and the listed authors are Nevenka Jednačak who I couldn't find much about with a Google search, but then also Miljenko Foretić, a person who was a well-known scholar, here's for example an obituary published in an academic journal. I realize I'm a fair few years too late here, but Sheldonium and Jingiby please both acquaint yourselves with the relevant policies and guidelines before further editing articles on controversial topics from the WP:ARBMAC topic area. --Joy [shallot] (talk) 19:04, 25 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Tamo Daleko

[edit]

This reference:

  • Savić, Predrag (17 March 2019). "У смрт због бритког пера и српства". Тамо далеко : портал за неговање веза дијаспоре и отаџбине. Tamo Daleko.

...seems signed by someone identifying as "Advokat" (lit. lawyer), not a (literary) historian, and the publisher is a website of a non-profit organization that has no apparent scholarly credentials - at least I couldn't find anything useful when I looked up the article author and the portal editor (Zdravo Elez) names at https://scholar.google.com/ and https://scindeks.ceon.rs/ I'm removing this as a blatant violation of WP:BLOG. --Joy [shallot] (talk) 13:19, 26 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
