Bibliographical note[edit]

There is a recent Italian doctoral thesis (Naples, 2012-2013, some 300+ pages) which might allow to revise and/or expand the article.

For potential confusion of four homonymous men cf. it:Discussione:Apollonide di Smirne (where the article was intended to deal with the philosopher of that name). Two of them however might in fact be one person: the epigram poet (described in this article) and a friend of Cato the Younger (mentioned in Plutarch's biography), as claimed by Herrmann, Antiqu.
