Hello, I am Carbrera, and I'll be reviewing this article for possible good article submission.
Full review coming very soon. Carbrera (talk) 00:39, 8 March 2016 (UTC)
- Advance notice – Just so you know in advance, when creating and expanding this article, I pretty much "used up" almost all of the reliable source coverage about the topic that is available online. Some sources essentially report the same content in different manners. Additional websites are available, but do not constitute Wikipedia's definition of reliable sources. North America1000 02:08, 8 March 2016 (UTC)
- Thank you. I appreciate the note. Carbrera (talk) 02:23, 8 March 2016 (UTC)
- – Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL

[edit]Fantastic work; I enjoy the content (and the food) mentioned in this article. :)
History
[edit]- I realize you stated how you can't really expand the article, but this section is awfully short.
- I added a bit more content, but unfortunately, source coverage about the history and origins of Applesauce cake is seriously lacking. North America1000 23:24, 8 March 2016 (UTC)
Ingredients and preparation
[edit]Paragraph 1
[edit]- Add a topic sentence to this paragraph please; an introduction would be a nice addition to the article
- I don't understand why allspice is linked and the rest of the ingredients are not
- I de-linked it; perhaps it's well known enough to not need linking. North America1000 22:57, 8 March 2016 (UTC)
- I would add 'also' to the sentence discussing how it 'may be served topped with a dusting of confectioner's single'
Paragraph 2
[edit]- The last sentence sounds more like poetry than a statement to me. Could this portion be reworded perhaps?
- Rewrote to: "Letting it sit for one or two days before serving can increase its flavor, as this allows time for the ingredients to intermingle within the cake." North America1000 23:00, 8 March 2016 (UTC)
Paragraph 3
[edit]- Delete a 'a' from the lead sentence; there are too many in the bundt pan section
- Done. That was a typo. North America1000 23:20, 8 March 2016 (UTC)
Variations
[edit]- I think you could list one more fruit if applicable; when you state 'fruits', I think plural, but only one fruit is listed
- Managed to find another source, rw to "blueberries and cranberries". Sources are rather scarce. North America1000 23:06, 8 March 2016 (UTC)
- Found one more source after digging; it now reads "blueberries, cranberries and raisins". North America1000 23:37, 8 March 2016 (UTC)
Notes
[edit]Nothing to add here...
References
[edit]- Make sure all references have access dates formatted in the same way; example: 28 September is preferred, but a few sources read September 28 instead
- Other than that I am glad to see nothing wrong with the sources :)
- I don't think this is necessary, because the dish originated in the United States, and the U.S. uses a mdy format. The way the dates are presently written is consistent throughout the article, in which the access dates and publication dates are all in the mdy same style. See also Date format by country. North America1000 23:11, 8 March 2016 (UTC)
Further reading
[edit]- You could, once again, add more categories to this article; it's not necessarily a must, but I think it is a good thing to have at least 3-4 on each article
- A problem here is that no suitable additional categories exist that I can find, unless new ones are created. For example, there is no Category:Historical cakes. Additional categories that could be used are already subcategories of the main categories on the page, such as Category:Baked goods and Category:Desserts. North America1000 23:16, 8 March 2016 (UTC)
End of GA Review:
[edit]I really enjoyed this article, perhaps that it made my mouth water? However, I'm putting it on hold until you are able to read my suggestions. I have no doubt in my mind that this will be a GA in no time. Thanks, Carbrera (talk) 22:46, 8 March 2016 (UTC)
- Great job, I'm exceptionally proud of your work on Wikipedia. I definitely look up to you. :) Carbrera (talk) 23:42, 8 March 2016 (UTC)
