Merger[edit]

Merger of Arapgir with Arabkir has been proposed. I think that the District article, Arapgir, will develop and that the town article can already stand by itself. I see no need to merge. --Bejnar 06:00, 31 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Eskişehir[edit]

Hello, I saw the discussion here about Arabkir and I thought I'd clear something up. When the old article says that "The present town was built at a comparatively recent date; but about 2 miles north-east is the old town, now called Eskişehir ...", the Eskişehir has no connection to the city and province of Eskişehir in western Anatolia. Since Eskişehir means "old city", you can find this name in a number of places around Turkey. I assume that this sentence is correct for Arapgir but the wikilink was not. Just to add, I've found the following from the "VirtualANI messageboard":
In the "new" town that is, which only dates from the mid-19th century. The ruins of medieval Arapkir (now called Eskisehir) are a few miles away from the current settlement and there may still be the ruins of an Armenian church there.

Theses a la turka[edit]

Dear all, Please, remove the 'thesis' PINAR KUNDİL in the author's sake! The title sounds interesting: THE ARMENIAN QUESTION ACCORDING TO TAKVİM-İ VEKAYİ (1914-1918). But basic information like pagination and whether the thesis was a success or not (submitted maybe, but what about the grade?). - Well, and then, what content?!

Demographics[edit]

The other source states that the town is majority Turkish along with the district. It is on the same page. The current statement that comes first in the Demographics section that Ethnic Groups in the Republic of Turkey is supposed to back up doesn't mention any group being the majority, rather it says Kurds populate the town. And since there is still another source that disagrees with that statement, the Kurdish categorization and tag for the town in the table should not stay as it is, until this gets clarity.

Moreover, I have access issues for the page mentioned in Ethnic Groups in the Republic of Turkey. Is it possible to add a quote or portion of a table from the source, so that I can ensure this isn't a misinterpretation? Antepli0234 (talk) 20:04, 14 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Well, who says the category should only be used if the city/district is Kurdish-majority? You have Kurdish villages in Arapgir district which should be sufficient enough to have the category present.
The other source only states that the district is populated by Turks, Kurds and Armenians in that order and nothing about the city (at least not on page 12)
I've taken an image of page 133[1] which is a chapter from the "Kurds: Sunni" chapter. Andrews does not even note that the town has a Turkish population which he would have (like elsewhere in his book). --Semsûrî (talk) 20:42, 14 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

If that's the logic you see fit for this category, I would suggest you to add Istanbul as a Kurdish settlement or most districts in Turkey, because they have Kurdish settlements or populations like Arapgir as well. It would be pretty easy to find a source too.

Armenia[edit]

Why is this in the Armenia wiki project? This town has never been part of Armenia. This is a town in Turkey with some history of Armenian presence there. Do we put Mulhouse, France into 'Wiki Germany'?

Also the article is all about 19th-20th c Armenians despite this being only a small and relatively irrelevant part of the town's history. Undue relevance comes into play. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ungitow (talk • contribs) 07:43, 2 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This is a serious problem. This is a 1000+ year old city with many important Turkish Muslim monuments and this article is solely about the Armenian small presence there. UNDUE/Relevance/Neutral point of view are all coming into play. This is like writing an article about Los Angeles and the whole thing is about the Filipino presence there. The primary focus here should be Turkey and Turkish sources. If some users want to make a fan fiction Armenia-centric alternative site, they should do so, but this is a global public resource of ra Turkish town. Ungitow (talk) 07:46, 2 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If Armenians from Arapgir and their descendants want to make a social media page to share their memories and pictures, wikipedia is not the place to do it.
