According to Endemia (www.endemia.nc) the only Sterculioideous genera present in New Caledonia are Acropogon and Heritiera. Although Argyrodendron is sometimes treated as a synonym of Heritiera, the species present in New Caledonia, Heritiera littoralis is never placed in Argyrodendron. Apart from that I have my doubts about the genus's presence in New Guinea and Malesia as well. The ANBG mapper does give a single collection from New Guinea, but this might be from a cultivated plant. Argyrodendron riedelianus aka Tarrietia riedeliana is reported from Sulawesi, but what this plant actually is not clear - I'd guess at a species of Heritiera. S.R. Looking at the LAE herbarium catalog, Agyrodendron trifoliolata is present in New Guinea. Lavateraguy 18:03, 12 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
