Notability

[edit]

This person is a diocesan bishop but the guidance on (Catholic) religious figures makes it clear that it is "significant coverage in multiple verifiable independent, reliable sources" (per WP:BASIC; emphasis mine), not the position itself, that establishes notability. At present, this article contains nothing that couldn't be part of a list on the diocese's page. The page needs to establish his notability properly. Dubbinu | t | c 15:23, 9 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for linking that essay. If you read the first point you'll see diocesan bishops are considered notable. Jonathunder (talk) 16:47, 9 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
No - the start of the essay makes is clear that people meeting those criteria will "almost always have sufficient coverage to qualify". But this essay and the general notability guide make it clear that it is the coverage, not the position, that determines notability. If the coverage is not forthcoming, the notability is not established. Note also that the coverage needs to be significant. Being born, being a bishop and later dying are not sufficient. It seems we might need an WP:AfD discussion. Dubbinu | t | c 17:57, 9 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
If you think you must, go ahead, but I predict it will be kept based on considerable precedent. Jonathunder (talk) 18:10, 9 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think I must; I'd be glad to reconsider if you can direct me to evidence of considerable precedent. Dubbinu | t | c 18:15, 9 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
